I got both my covid annual and my trivalent flu vaccines yesterday at a pop-up clinic held by the local health department. Sore arm, a little muzzy, didn't sleep well, but otherwise doing great for it!

ICE agents raid South Shore apartments; Trump says Chicago could become military training ground
ICE agents raided a South Shore apartment building overnight as the city braces for a possible military deployment.
βABC7 spoke to Pertissue Fisher, a woman who lives in the building. She said ICE agents took everyone in the building, including her, and asked questions laterβ¦.βThey was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other.ββ
It canβt happen here, you say. But it is happening.

A car killed their mother, and they in turn died because they couldn't learn how to hunt from her. One car collision, three resulting deaths. People need to know the full consequences.

Honestly, you could have included that in the OP (& the email newsletter), instead of giving us the very false hope that something could be done for these cuties.

I think my colleague Evelyn talked me into doing Summer Scares next year. Sounds like a really cool program. Might just piggyback on her Zoom calls with the authors, at least to start, for big programs. I hope horror can resonate with my patrons & open people to new genres.

Attended a great library conference last week. Caught up with many colleagues, got new ideas, relaxed & felt refreshed. And I came back to work afterwards to find good notes on my desk from my assistant, no "fires" to put out. Great working vacation.

I put forth the idea of a book club at the start of the school year. Eight students have signed up. They range from 2nd-8th grade, have a wide variety of skills & interests.
Maybe it will be a silent book club, or a show & tell book club, or maybe they'll have ideas of their own of what they want.

I'm doing my best to remember a language I majored in but rarely have used in years.
And thus, my accomplishment this week is that in reading a bilingual info book to that class, I managed to bore the native Spanish speaker. π

Since we no longer have a Spanish teacher at school, we of course now have a native Spanish speaker in a class. I'm adding books to the library that the previous teacher left behind, that *my* HS Spanish teacher donated to the cause, & what I can order through Scholastic. /1

Search LibGen, the Pirated-Books Database That Meta Used to Train AI
Millions of books and scientific papers are captured in the collectionβs current iteration.
Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.
OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

I'm happy for them, I'm happy for them, I'm happy for them. I'll be happy for ME once I fill whichever position I need to post (the new hire that started last week is interested in the opening, which has more hours).

I felt so refreshed and energized after yesterday's open house at school! It's amazing how good it was to reconnect with my colleagues.
Looking forward to being at the school again, because that one day each week really is how I stay sane at my other job.
