Got back from Spokane No Kings protest. I have no idea how many people showed up because I started walking there and an organizer was ushering people away from the park already getting people lined up on the sidewalks because the park was overflowing.

- Remove the electoral college

- Mandate ranked choice voting

- Repeal the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 (if the house of reps grew with the population we'd have ~1200 representatives in Congress)

- POTUS is relegated more towards emergency/wartime commander. In peacetime their role is tasked with the bureaucratic functions of the military, chief emissary/rep of US, and as an advisor to Congress on military/intelligence/foreign treaties/etc.

- Expand SCOTUS, introduce 16-year term limit

Some ideas to all this:

- Current POTUS should only have direct command of our military only when Congress declares war. Otherwise command is vested in in the House
- Creation of a prime minister role that oversees domestic issues, including nominating and staffing most of our current departments

I've posted before that I think Dems/whoever should run on a platform of scaling back presidential powers. Really they should run on a democratic reform platform that includes reducing POTUS power, but also includes things that expands and strengthens democratic processes.

Not only would this be the correct and moral thing to do, but it'd be pretty popular, too! Most people are blaming Republicans for the shut down. The NG stuff is also deeply unpopular. Marry the two issues!

I 100% agree. This should be the line Dems take when it comes to funding negotiations. Healthcare premiums are important, but unnecessarily federalizing troops and having them stationed all over the country under the guise of a crisis is far more important.
