This is such a great thread also (related to my previous post). And also, a reminder: protest is not the only meaningful action, nor the only source of fun, joy, and community under fascism. Disabled activists are models of this in a multitude of spaces.

It is an inherently coloborationist framework. If there is violence, it will be because of the actions of Washington state and local police. The message "Don't give Trump an excuse" is giving him one in advance.

The idea that LA, Chicago, DC Portland or Memphis have "given Trump an excuse to send the guard" is so harmful. It blames the victims of facism and those protesting facism for the actions of fascists.

This is not a helpful statement. The only violence that's happened at protests has been done by the police. If elected leaders in Washington want to help ensure peace and nonviolence, reduce or eliminate police presence at protests.

I'm hopeful and I expect that things will be peaceful today in Spokane and around Washington state. But the people that @governorferguson.bsky.social and @murray.senate.gov and others should be reminding to stay peaceful are the cops.

Appreciate that washington state electeds are telling folks to go protest. However, the reminders to stay peaceful are unhelpful to say the least. The only violence that's been happening at protests is violence done by police. Period

I have ptsd from police violence, incarceration, and protest in my youth. It's getting triggered every day just by existing in the world and disengaging is not an option. I'm gonna be scared either way. Organizing, connecting with community and mental health care will get me through.

I'm glad that they are safe, but leaving is not an option for me and many many others. Gonna do what I can, when I can for as long as I can. Gonna remember the millions of people who have stood up and are standing up with less protections and more to risk than I have, and draw strength from that

My parents grew up in a totalitarian white supremacist country. When my dad was drafted into the Rhodesian army to put down the revolution, they left everything they had and fled the country. Some 50 years later, most of my family has left the US.
