i love that a significant portion of the population of the world believes in demons and the devil and satan. they just think this stuff is real and it genuinely scares them

waymo to recall software after some vehicles were seen passing stopped school buses (with their lights on and crossing control arm deployed)

specifically posting about Waymo here: Driverless cars, if they ever progress to a point where they are safer than humans, are a net good. In their current form, deploying them onto the roads is fucking stupid and dangerous. There is no reason to do this beyond profiteering.

i hate how like, annoying and awful being a proponent of technological advancement is these days because of billionaires and billion dollar companies doing completely fucking dumb and dangerous shit in the search of profit/because they can rather than actually focusing on progress.

Yuuuuuup. Cassidy was the deciding vote to install RFK Jr. as the head of the American health system. We had decades of evidence that Kennedy was a dangerous crackpot, and it was ignored. Kinda late to be trying to CYA here.

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

I really think that even most people who think language policing was a huge problem over the past 5-10 years have no patience for the disgusting little freaks who have tried to bring back "retarded" as a slur. It's just so low-rent and such a tell that the person using it is not worth your time

with all disrespect to the brands, 30% off is really not all that exciting in this economy

Anyone who does this should be held legally accountable. Any government official who allowed doing this to be legal in their city/state should be held legally accountable for this. No, you can’t actually just tee-hee falling asleep while driving a fucking car. What is wrong with all of these people

If you said you were drunk but thankfully you barely drove home without passing out it would be universally agreed you should go to jail. It’s maddening how apparently if you own a Tesla, though, you’re allowed to brag about getting behind the wheel while impaired to the point of unconsciousness.

I'm not even in tech and this mirrors my experience being forced to provide input on implementing AI. Also did not seem amused when I mentioned that to do this we would be feeding proprietary info to an LLM/other company and that they could turn around and sell that info.

26.11.2025 11:19 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

(this wouldn't be an entirely full picture, because this doesn't include training, this would literally just be the relationship to user inputs and the power or water utilized to generate an output based on those inputs)

25.11.2025 01:58 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

i'm assuming this is like, proprietary information, but do we have any good estimates of how much power/water is utilized for each token an LLM uses?

s/o to the ocaml maintainers bc this is a way nicer response than deserved or anyone else would have given i fear.

(this is assuming he used the API and not the subscription for Claude, which would've essentially made this just the subscription cost of ~$17-$20/mo depending on if a monthly or yearly sub)

25.11.2025 00:12 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm guesstimating ~$5-$7? I ran the diff through Claude's tokenizer and got ~$2.38 as the cost but that's imperfect because I bet he had to feed the entire ocaml repo in there.

My take on this is that NVMe is for anything i "need" to be FAST (boot, apps, games, etc.) but everything else just goes on a large spinny drive because there's still more value per gig there. I also might have weird storage needs bc I hoard data (at least compared to the average consumer).

mamdani keeping a zionist police chief (i have heard his explanation of this - it's bullshit) and taking a meeting with trump is exactly why we cannot have "good" progressives in the current electoral system.

I think the President of the US responding to a question about the murder of a journalist with "A lot of people didn't like that gentleman" is probably pretty bad.

either way this has to suck for like, colossal order and their team because this is basically the publisher yoinking their only real long-term IP/game from them to another dev as a vote of 0 confidence.

Cities Skylines 2 transitioning devs post-release with all of the issues that the game has is wild and I feel like is a death march for the game and potentially the franchise as well. Hoping for the best but a bunch of devs w/o direct experience in that codebase taking the mantle feels like disaster

This kinda nixed the idea because the other dog had aggression issues that weren't disclosed to us (worth noting he was a family friend's dog and we... had some words about this) and he traumatized our dog.

One thing I recommend is trying to have a play date on neutral ground (e.g. not in your dog's territory like your house/yard, but not in the other dog's territory either) to see how they get along might be a good idea. When I tried to get another dog years ago we made the mistake of NOT doing this.

I don't expect the bluesky mods to enforce their TOS against government accounts.

But they are the ones who decided to make the social media site where all the autistic people hang out.

"Say what the rules actually are, then apply them like you said you would" is a bare minimum for this crowd.
