Just presenting a list of characteristics and attitudes is never enough. People want to identify with a brand/a candidate. Spin a story, make it a story that people can connect with, make it about a person. Humans have primitive wiring. We don’t vote for lists.

What doesn’t work:

“Let’s just make it about -policies-.”

“Let’s just look at what we currently offer and make sure we present that effectively.”

“We already have a brand, there’s equity there, let’s lean on that, it should be enough.”

The classic truth about effective marketing is that it’s better to be specific than all things to all people. Budgets are finite; the goal should be to spin a specific narrative that people flock to identify with.
