#BetrouwbareBronnen omny.fm/shows/betrou...

Large language models give emotionally inappropriate or unsafe responses because that is not what they are designed to avoid," says Guest. But teaching AI systems to recognize high-stakes emotional content, like depression or addiction, has been challenging. Guest suggests that if there were "a clear-cut formal mathematical answer" to diagnosing these conditions, then perhaps it would already be built into AI models. But AI doesn't understand context or emotional nuance the way humans do. "To help people, the experts need to meet them in person," Guest adds. "Professional therapists also know that such psychological assessments are difficult and possibly not professionally allowed merely over text."

Don’t believe the hype: AGI is far from inevitable | Radboud University Will AI soon surpass the human brain? If you ask employees at OpenAI, Google DeepMind and other large tech companies, it is inevitable. However, researchers at Radboud University and other institutes ...

Perhaps counterintuitive but guardrails are full-blown cognition in the case of models that contain data from the web which obviously also contains inappropriate content. Only human cognition at that point can sort this data into appropriate for a child or not.

In their paper, the researchers introduce a thought experiment where an AGI is allowed to be developed under ideal circumstances. Olivia Guest, co-author and assistant professor in Computational Cognitive Science at Radboud University: ‘For the sake of the thought experiment, we assume that engineers would have access to everything they might conceivably need, from perfect datasets to the most efficient machine learning methods possible. But even if we give the AGI-engineer every advantage, every benefit of the doubt, there is no conceivable method of achieving what big tech companies promise.’

That’s because cognition, or the ability to observe, learn and gain new insight, is incredibly hard to replicate through AI on the scale that it occurs in the human brain. ‘If you have a conversation with someone, you might recall something you said fifteen minutes before. Or a year before. Or that someone else explained to you half your life ago. Any such knowledge might be crucial to advancing the conversation you’re having. People do that seamlessly’, explains van Rooij.

And I'll repeat this because why not.

This is really what companies want. They want us to be totally isolated from other people. And all our interactions to be mediated by their LLMs, in a way that literally edits and devalues what we know and say.

A new plan to escape from China’s iron grip on rare earths – ReSourceEU – is also in the works, and will be modelled on the bloc’s decoupling from Russian energy supplies after it invaded Ukraine.

Under pressure from Beijing’s chokehold on rare earths and the simmering feud over chipmaker Nexperia, EU officials have been asked to tone down their public rhetoric on Beijing, even as the bloc moves forward aggressively with its de-risking plans.

Peter Thiel has sold all of his Nvidia stock.

We all need to say this very clearly:

NO BAILOUTS FOR THEFT-TECH!

Expropriate their asses instead.

They stole from all of us and fully plan to burn the planet.

They owe us - not the other way around. 1/3
