The brain can only keep ~7 things in working memory. That shaped how we designed RYFT: every system had to respect that limit, so the experience works the way an audio-based adventure game should — kept in your head and off the screen.

FACT: No matter how much you've tested your adventure game. Your parents will find a way to break it within 1 minutes.

We are looking to update some of the graphics moving forward -- most of this project was written/recorded before genAI was even a thing, so it's a fair thing to call out that folks might be questioning what's human-made and what's not.

The entire game is written by a human (me), and recorded by a cast of real voice actors. It's a three person passion project, and donations based. The focus of the game is audio/voice-speech interactions.

Such a classic adventure game response for not wanting to waste time designing empty drawers. We have a few dressers missing drawers in RYFT — although now I’m kicking myself for not directly referencing this line.

Man, should have waited to resell my OLED! Oh well, at least it’s gone to a good home.

Why are audio games just not really a thing? When all these smart home devices came out, there were some attempts. But they’ve all been pretty limited (multiple choice, choose your own adventure, robo-voiced)

It's a great observation, so much about what made those early graphic adventures so impactful was the stunning landscape pixel art you would encounter. Something about each being a composed picture (vs. a 3D world you can look around) had some additional story/emotional impact.
