The original Portal's very bland and empty test chambers worked so well because they were bland and empty. It might not have been an interesting building, but it ensured your focus was solely on the puzzle.
Less is more, as they say. If everything's grabbing your attention, nothing is.

One very big inspiration for my game is the Portal games, especially Portal 2. Something I'll definitely be doing later is playing through some of the more decorated and lively chambers to see how they pulled it off.

I really want every empty space to be filled and every little detail to be noticed. Unfortunately as a result the screen becomes very noisy, which isn't very good for directing the players focus anywhere. (continued)

While I cannot speak for everyone, I would be happy with there being more exposure. The point of a trailer is to get people's eyes on the project, so more people seeing the trailer would be a bonus!
The only thing I can see (reasonable) people wanting is a link to their store page or channel.

A very basic prototype for a puzzle game. The level is built out of white grid-like tiles, and most of the elements are either crudely drawn or squashed and stretched Godot Engine logos.
An early build of a puzzle-platformer game. The graphics are basic, mostly being made up of purple tiles. A red player character stands in the middle, holding a green box with a four-point star on it.
Another early build, this one much more polished than the last. The purple tiles now are decorated with pipes and wires, and the overall feel is more polished
Similar to the last screenshot, but the platforms are less busy, the player character is a blue figure now, and a large screen sits on the right of the frame with a pink smiley-face observing the scene in it.
Apparently I started work on #RUBIE about 2 years ago! It's kind of crazy seeing how much this game has evolved over time. Luckily I still have plenty of old builds of the game, so I can look at old prototypes pretty easy!

Ditto, but the noisy and busy out-of-bounds areas have been removed, and in its place is a much more subtle and cleaner visual. The platforms are arranged in a grid pattern, and to break up this grid pattern, several larger squares take up sections of the grid.

I recently decided that I don't like how much clutter these out-of-bounds decorations add, so I've decided to swap them out for a much more subtle solution. I think it looks pretty good!
