Text: The reality is that these labored-over texts are tough to cut. A text that
has been substantially revised before having proved its own worth may end
up as what I call a "legacy text"; it may read well, but an honest appraisal
will tell you that it is unnecessary. You originally thought the topic needed
discussing, so you wrote the paragraph. Then, rather than ask if the para-
graph was actually necessary, you polished it. All chat polishing may mean
that the topic is clearly articulated at the outset, the flow between sentences
is good, the individual sentences are strong, the word choice is apt. This
paragraph-which is simultaneously good and yet at odds with the aims of
the writing-can be a significant challenge. The presence of legacy texts is
often a stumbling block for writers, especially those who have more capacity
as writers.

Prepping for teaching #AmRevising to grad students. Love this bit from @rachaelcayley.bsky.social's Thriving as a Graduate Writer re "legacy texts." I had my own issue with a paragraph this summer that I'd labored over & polished, but realized no longer fit as the draft developed. Glad I let it go!

If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

Tyler Shores and Colleen Mayowski sit in front of a slide that says, "What works? Evidence-based insights into community impact"

At #shutupandwrite symposium: Colleen M discusses self-efficacy and academic writing. High writing self-efficacy would mean a graduate researcher/PhD/PGR has confidence they can write as required for that publication.
Colleen argues for self-efficacy as a proxy for the impact of SUAW. #metrics
