Morning Exchanges World. It's August, which means a lot of folks are away on a well deserved vacation...and also that my meeting load drops through the floor.
So, no excuse not to crack on with my to list - starting with all the latest emails, and then on to podcast editing!
Absolute corking podcast recording today with a researcher north of the border. I suspect we could have kept on chatting for several hours!
This new episode will be with your ears, early next week!
Details at: exchanges.warwick.ac.uk/index.php/ex...
Or in our bio of course!
Good to see that we're continuing to get a steady trickle of new paper submissions over the 'research term' (as I once heard the northern summertime period referred to!)
Should you be interesting in submitting to Exchanges, our submissions for general, interdisciplinary papers are open 24/7/365!
Spending a bit more time today re-writing my job description for my hopeful successor in the post. It remains such an exciting and varied role, where no year has quite been like the one before!
30.07.2025 11:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great meeting over coffee with one of my fellow journal editors here at Warwick this morning. Catching up on our mutual plans and current activities (and thoughts on the various ongoing challenges we've got).
Hoping we can keep up & increase this kind of informal networking with the other editors.
Morning Exchanges World! This week more preparation on the Research Culture '25 special issue now at pre-publication status, enjoying(!) my annual review, meeting a fellow editor for a catch up & lots of documentation and policy work.
Hope whatever and wherever you are this week, it's a good one!
ICYMI - we have a new podcast episode!

Morning Exchanges World, and after a couple of weeks of intense heat, humidity and periodic deluges it's back to the office for the EIC today.
Which means a team meeting, various conversations with colleagues and catching up with the past two weeks of email correspondence!
Wow.
That was an >excellent< podcast episode (5 guests, so it's a longer than usual one). I'll be buzzing with the insights and discussion for some time. Very much looking forward to the editing process so I can listen to it all over again.
Announcement: Exchanges Head Office Closed for Two Weeks (July 2025)
This is my last day in office until Tue 22nd July - so hence, there will be a brief delay in responding to new submissions or emails. For details see:

Today we're recording a BIG episode of the Exchanges Discourse podcast. Should be lots of fun, and will be with you in a few short weeks for your listening pleasure.
03.07.2025 08:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great chat with a prospective associate editor on Exchanges - where she asked a very interesting question about 'what's the life of an editor like?'
Sadly, I had to inform her that the number of jet ski rides and exotic travel options were few and far between!
Morning Exchanges World! Hope everyone is keeping cool today (unlike our local interwebs which keeps having minor meltdowns!)
This week is all about focused effort on the Research Culture special issue getting publication ready, and a fun podcast recording on Thursday.
And in case you hadn't heard already, there are some staffing changes coming in the next few months to Exchanges HQ.
Read about them here: exchangesdiscourse.wordpress.com/2025/06/26/t...
Some decline decisions are easy: something which doesn't meet any of our base requirements for consideration (form, format & length). Top advice to potential authors is READ THE SUBMISSION GUIDANCE FIRST...some editors might be more sniffy in their response!

Good morning Exchanges World. Today I'm running my last teaching session of the academic year, catching up on editing tasks - starting with writing a very polite decline letter to a poetical submission.
26.06.2025 08:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Anna and Sofia now giving us the context for the workshop, and going through the high level outcomes from the survey. I was lucky enough to have a preview for this a week or two back, but remains very interesting.
Good to see strong support for rigorous PR, diamond OA and EDI
This morning I'm in a workshop looking at Warwick University Press and the plans around its development. Something I've got a deep professional interest in. Looking forward to it.
25.06.2025 09:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lovely meeting there with people we're looking to work on for a museum studies related future special issue of Exchanges. Still firming up ideas, but hopefully in the coming months we'll be able to open up the CFP to interested parties.
24.06.2025 13:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Morning Exchanges World.
Today I've moved offices (again) - along the corridor from where Exchanges was previously in the lovely Zeeman Building.
Should you be passing, you'll find me in C0.12 now.

Busy day of meetings and conversations here at Exchanges HQ, and reviewing progress on our various developing special issues.
