It's time to let go of everything I wanted it to be and thought it could be. There are a lot of things I would change about its development, but I wouldn't change the story itself.

It exists. It's out there. It's not perfect, and that's okay.

It's time to tell the next story the best way I can.

The story of The Impossible Doors has been told. And while it's comfortable for me to try to find a way to retell it or find a bigger audience for it, it's simply not the best way forward.

The graphic novel is what it is. I love it, and I am proud of it. It made me a published author. But...

Last night, I decided to continue (and, in a way, restart) the story of the Brothers Flick as a novel rather than pursuing a new publisher for the graphic novel series.

This morning, I wrote 1,000 words, and it feels right. We'll see how the next 1,000 go.

I know it sounds like a manufactured story, but it really happened. I was absolutely floored. Like, how did he even recognize me? My picture isn't in the book. He must have looked me up. Holy shit, am I at that level now?

Sigh. Imposter Syndrome strikes again.

During my six-year-old's school performance this evening, a young boy came over to me and said, "Excuse me, sir?"

I thought he was going to ask if he could squeeze by me. "Yes?"

"I just wanted to tell you that I read your book, and I loved it, and I really hope you write a sequel."

I needed that.

I don't know what this could possibly be about...

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

You know.

I wrote up five story pitches this week for a potential comic opportunity. This morning, I had another idea. Whiteboard to the rescue.

Because of my marketing day job, I have to browse LinkedIn on occasion. And the fakeness of all of it seriously makes my stomach turn.

How did we create an entire culture around finding our purpose in helping to make rich people richer?

No gods. No heroes. No idols.

I realize I'm a few weeks behind at this point...

...but I just finished the first episode of #SkeletonCrew.

I didn't know how much I needed the Goonies in a Galaxy Far, Far Away until just now. That was so much fun.

The zoo in my city only has one in an enclosure. I just want to go in there and hang out with him. He seems chill.

Graphic novel writers and artists, when you're submitting to agents, how many rejections do you get before you say to yourself, "Maybe this idea isn't quite right yet?"

I raise a glass to you, sir. We've all heard of weaponized incompetence, but now we're experiencing weaponized ignorance.

For me, it will be the "eliminating the Department of Education" conversation. Since the DoE is pretty much the only reason my special needs son can get therapy services and an inclusive education in his elementary school.
