At CFAB, we are immensely proud of our wonderful team that has worked tirelessly on the Family Reunification Project, especially Chloe and Ruth (pictured).

Since 2019, more than 500 children have been reunited with their families through our Family Reunification Project, which provides practical, emotional, and therapeutic support to help rebuild their lives.

Children crossing borders are often at risk of family separation and statelessness.

Thousands of children seeking asylum in the UK are unaccompanied and alone. We advocate for those children to have their family connections traced and the right to sponsor relatives to join them here in the UK.

Underpinning all of the principles of Cross-Border Family Solutions is accountability. ⁠

Without accountability, systems cannot learn and evolve to better support children and their families.

Gaps in data collection and reporting must be closed so that no child slips through the cracks.

Settling into a new home and family dynamic can take some time, even in kinship arrangements where children already know their carers. The right support at the right time can help families to adjust better and increase long-term stability.

Care arrangements should always include a transition plan.

Kinship care is proven to help children feel a stronger sense of belonging than other types of non-parental care, because children in kinship care are more closely connected to their background, culture and family history.

It's time identity gets the recognition it deserves.

Regretably, misconceptions about other cultures and countries prevent ⁠children from being reunited with their relatives overseas.

Principle 4 of Cross-Border Family Solutions ensures that opportunities for children to be raised by their families are not blocked by unconscious bias.

In international family cases, it is essential to collaborate with authorities and professionals in other countries.

Local professionals can offer a more holistic picture and help social workers understand the uniqueness of a family within their cultural, religious, ethnic and community context.

Care plans for children should be equitable, no matter their ethnicity, nationality, or background.

More and more children in the UK have relatives living abroad. We ensure that these relatives are assessed as potential kinship carers for the children in their family.
