Frustrated by NIMBYs, states are trying to force cities to build affordable housing Utah's leaders worry skyrocketing home prices are keeping young people from creating wealth. It's among a growing number of states β€” red and blue β€” passing laws to promote more affordable places.

"...In recent years, the state has amped up both the carrot and the stick, passing laws to encourage development and to enforce its mandate. Towns and counties now have to pick a handful of ways to create denser, cheaper housing and report on their progress every year."

Trump's Big Ugly Bill Is a Loss for Housing The tax bill includes big increases in housing funding. But its other provisions are so harmful that the affordable housing field should not be celebrating.

So many cities and states are working hard to address their housing affordability crises. If Federal funds get pulled back - the momentum being built in new supply and rehab will slow at the same time as housing stability supports also dry up www.urban.org/urban-wire/t...

Responding to Federal Data Changes: Connecticut’s Path Forward While the topic of β€œdisappearing data” may seem alarmist, or perhaps relevant only to data people, what we are learning about changes to the support of our publicly funded data is going to affect every organization, including non-profit and for-profit organizations. At our May 30 event in Hartford, we learned more about what is happening to data and data partnership that is affecting state data, what we can do in our own organizations to follow the law and protect privacy, and most importantly, identified actions that we can all take as participants in this great democracy.

I'm hoping to see more Apartment and Landlord associations mobilizing against the proposed cuts. The rent only eats first when families are actually eating. Cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and the safety net will exacerbate the huge challenge of unaffordable housing and past-due rent.
