The backup account of @devlinburgess.bsky.social, here for when the technical hiccups got ya down.

31.08.2025 19:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Imaginary, by Niira Ikuhana
Manga Number 10: Imaginary. Another dud. Started out promising but quickly started to just meander in interminable banter-y dialog. Even the whole "imagination" angle seemed to get dropped in favor of listening to some pretty dull college kids ramble about dating stereotypes. Disappointing.

And not a moment too soon, as we are besieged by enemies on all fronts! And all backs! From numerous, undemocratic directions! Fight On, Helldivers!

Y'know, people always give credit to Captain America for punching Hitler (on a cover), but nobody ever respects the OG Human Torch for actually burning him alive.

Welp, caught up on #AlienEarth now....
Are we really supposed to buy that the Xenomorphs, the walking embodiment of the concept of rape, can just be...talked to and charmed?๐ฌ
Honestly though, for the most part it was just really boring. So many characters and themes and none of them are engaging.
"It's magic, we don't have to explain it."
.....why do the synth bodies even have the ability to speak weird chitonous screeching.
#AlienEarth
You'd think being ninjas *and* turtles would make them good at swimming, but nooooo....
28.08.2025 01:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also just the fact that every country counts and reports crime differently. The way domestic abuse and sexual assault are dealt with (or *not dealt with*) for example.
Also also, it's weird to keep banging the "Japan is so safe" drum not long after both a mass murder *and* a political assassination.
It's not like I'm against the technique entirely-Stephen King does it all the time, and I like it plenty when he does it.
I just....don't get it here.
Potential hot take, but....am I the only one who doesn't like the way music is used in #Alien:Earth? I just....don't really get what they're going for, especially with the contemporary samples like Metallica, which just kinda....confuse me. Always takes me out of the scene.

No no, that's Star Trek! You're in Alien! *Alien*. Nobody can hear you scream? Game Over, man? .....You...bitch?
You'll get it eventually.

Since this is my backup account, let me repost my #promosky from the main one for anybody who is just meeting me now. Feels slightly narcissistic to have one account quote the other, but what are you gonna do, right?๐คทโโ๏ธ
27.08.2025 23:27 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Tezuka *does* have his characters indulge in the typical right wing Japanese whining about "victor's justice" regarding the occupation and the war crimes trials, which is annoying but at least fits more believably in the setting than "FDR planned Pearl Harbor and Hitler was secretly Jewish".
27.08.2025 23:23 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Honestly? Adolf was a fundamentally gross and misguided book. Ayako? Felt more like the other "serious" works I've read of the period. Not indefensible, but really scattershot and all over the place. Felt like it was trying too hard to be "adult" at times. Art was definitely better though./1

Don't worry, I'm the type to obsess over everyone reacting to my posts immediately. I'm not Drake.๐
27.08.2025 21:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'll stick by Origins as the only game other than Asylum to really work for me, particularly on the story front. I love Kevin Conroy and Mark Hammil but I think Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker give damn fine performances.
Also, great main theme.
Love Tetris Effect, so this is good to hear.

27.08.2025 21:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The Rose of Versailles and Utena fans have gone too far this time.
27.08.2025 21:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Osamu Tezuka deserves way more criticism. Yeah I know, Astro Boy, Father of Anime, I get it. But none of you know true pain until you've read 1000+ pages of an old man lecturing you about what the Holocaust and the Occupation was *really* about interspersed with creepy sex stuff.
