there are many ways to take the slow methodical manipulating
and it is a splendid and appealing concept
but from what I seen from a lot of anime they always have it too bland, or they just have the yandere character "being scary" and treating them as a cardboard cutout.

it's hard to pull off given the large amount of poorly portrayed yanderes in anime

anime's often portray it as a conquest thing or a "love me or you die" which while scary, it doesn't portray any actual love.
its always "ooh scary girl is murdery haha"
