Fun fact: Johan and Peewit were popular in Belgium in the 1950s, but they weren't enough to make Peyo a household name. Most of Peyo’s human characters in Johan and Peewit had little to no personality, unlike The Smurfs, which had more layers under their one-note personality traits.

Fun fact: When the Smurfs show started, Peyo vetoed H-B from Americanizing his little blue characters. He wanted them to stay rooted in the Middle Ages — old-fashioned and timeless. The series also featured a classical music soundtrack. Like Charles Schulz, Peyo was against adding a laugh track.

If you don't like the 2025 movie, watch 1961 series, The Magic Flute, 1981 Hanna-Barbera series and Smurfs: The Lost Village instead. They're good/decent Smurfs content.

Fun fact: Characters such as King Gerard, the Pussywillow Pixies, Lord Balthazar, the Wartmongers, and Nemesis were created exclusively for the 1980s Smurfs animated series by Hanna-Barbera, meaning none of them were adapted into later entries of the original Smurfs comics produced by Studio Peyo.

Wang Film Productions sure got around in the 80s and 90s. Many animated TV shows during that time subcontracted to Wang, especially anything from Disney and Hanna-Barbera.
Horta Editorial's sound design for this show was also pretty good.

Yeah, if I'm gonna watch a Belgian comic turned CG animated movie, the two Asterix films (The Mansions of the Gods & The Secret of the Magic Potion) and the miniseries of The Big Fight, they're definitely more entertaining than this mess, and in the case of the two movies, they're free on YouTube

Started to watch the Asterix mini-series with the kiddos! Soooo good. I grew up reading the Asterix & Obelix comic books, and I'm so happy they were able to actualize the humor while still respecting the spirit of the books. Watch it, it's amazing.
