Speaking of the Attitude Era, I wish it was more widely understood that it was wrestling organically changing to meet the culture rather than the default standard of what wrestling "is supposed to be."

Again, no judgement at all to people who just can't stomach any of it, there's no shame in having limits and abiding by them. It's just pretty obvious when bad faith arguments are being made. Like you said it's all about the grift. Oldheads looking for a paycheck.

It's true but also I think deathmatch is kind of a broad term and everyone is going to have different boundaries. Like the old FMW Funk/Onita matches don't even phase me but there's some CZW Tournament of Death shows I can't even watch lol.

It's just hard for me to not see it as concern trolling when Foley being thrown off the cell (a match where he concussed) and getting his brains bashed in right in front of his 5 year old kid are both lauded as "iconic moments" by the same individuals. Both of which could have actually gone wrong.

Also the fact that an actual good movie (Invisible Man 2020) was spared a pretty bad fate by being retooled after the Dark Universe fell apart.

I don't judge anyone who just doesn't have the stomach for deathmatches, but it feels weird that so much "AEW went too far" rhetoric seems to come from fans that grew up with the Attitude Era and constantly bemoan how soft/woke/insert buzzword here wrestling is nowadays. What do you even want?
