Two weeks ago, we hosted The People’s Town Hall.

While our elected officials refused to show up, we’re thankful @aftynbehn.bsky.social made time to join us and answer questions.

It was an opportunity for people to come learn about what is happening in our state legislature.

Because our representatives aren’t willing to have conversations with us, we’re thankful for TN State Rep. Aftyn Behn for agreeing to hear our concerns, share what’s been going on at the TN Capitol, and act like an elected official truly should. Thank you for stepping in, Representative Behn.

On a more pointed note – Senator Haile, you may be unaware of this, but the NAACP and the Democratic Party are not one and the same. The NAACP is a non-partisan organization. That’s like saying, “I have a Black friend” to excuse your racism. Get your facts straight.

As Democrats, we are very aware that we’re the minority vote in this community. That being said, Democrats still make up a substantial part of the vote.

Events where folks have to pay to attend aren’t town halls. Private events aren’t town halls. If you won’t attend ours, host your own.

“I have not ever, not will I ever participate in any event hosted by the Democratic Party” (Rep Lamberth) isn’t the flex he thinks it is.

Our Chair reached out to our elected representatives to invite them to a town hall on Saturday, July 19. All have declined.

Thank you to those of you who have shown up consistently over the past few months to push back.

Libraries should serve everyone. Today, we won.

UPDATE: the policy FAILED! Thank you to all who showed up to fight for our first amendment rights and for our LGBT+ community.

There’s a whole crew of people here to speak out against SCLB Chair Joanna Daniels’s collections policy - known as the policy of selective censorship and First Amendment violations.

And - for what it’s worth - we stand with our LGBT+ community. This policy is bullshit. Libraries are for everyone.

Today, we mourn the effects of the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill.

- Rural hospitals that will be closed
- Working families who will lose access to TennCare
- Children who rely on SNAP benefits
- Elders healthcare will be taken away

Happy Independence Day. Keep fighting.

The bill passed, and that means that sooner rather than later, our neighbors will be hurting.

Hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans will lose healthcare because of this bill. Hospitals across the state will close.

Building community and mutual aid is the strongest form of resistance possible.

We all must stand up and reject Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”.

We must make our voices heard.

A panel of phenomenal speakers including EC member and school board candidate Holly Cruz, our former Democratic candidate Deborah Alston-Barr as the keynote speaker, and even a discussion about the importance of voting by SC Election Commissioner Pat Collins, it was an inspiring event!
