The Burning Wheel – Modernism Lab
And at last the wheel has rest, is still,
Shrunk to an adamant core,
Fulfilling its will in fixity.
But the yearning atoms, as they grind
Closer and closer, more and more
Fiercely together, beget
A flaming fire upward leaping,
Billowing out

Pushkin and the Imperial Lyceum: A Sentimental Education for an Unsentimental Upbringing
Among the glaucous waves that kiss gold Tauris’ beaches
I saw a Nereid, as dawn flushed heaven’s reaches.
I barely dared to breathe, hid in the olive trees,
While the young demigoddess rose above the seas

The Poet’s Nightstand with David Roderick
Poets talk about five books that have made a big impression on them recently.
Fall fell wind-wise today—
trembles of dried lilac stalks, dead
hydrangea that couldn’t reach
water, all the finches and wrens
boldly on the move. Fall fell, my friend.
It ended summer like the last page
of the last chapter of your life

I will note that what that photo really demonstrates to me is that if folks really cared about women's sports, they'd work on boosting participation, not furthering discriminatory and fearmongering narratives meant to divide us amongst ourselves.
Yes, I'm talking about you, @usacycling.bsky.social.

I reference repeatedly my own small example of this phenomenon: the photo some have circulated of me in second place on a podium is also a picture of me dead last, having finished a lap down & over 10 minutes behind the other woman—& very deserving winner!—standing with me (& one step higher!) I wanted her to get it, because that’s how I see the world.
For her, it’s more logical that a doll would open its eyes in the night.
That a doll would have children, that’s logical to her.
She tried to explain to me, but I don’t really get it either

Just so folks know: Giant is a literal giant--serving as the OEM manufacturer for a multitude of brands, besides being a major brand on its own.
If you thought the retail bike industry was in dog days before, it's really impossible to explain just how huge the impact of this will be:

Slow Reading Programme No. 1: Ark Ramsay x Shivanee Ramlochan
For our first Slow Reading Programme we want to reflect on a limited edition chapbook that Fresh Milk supported the making of, in partnership with Poinciana Paper Press and supported by the Panta Rhea Foundation. The inaugural Lucayan Archipelago Residency took place in The Bahamas from September to November 2024 bringing together Barbadian non-binary writer Ark Ramsay with Puerto Rican Jocmarys Viruet Feliciano, a visual artist whose practice focuses on hand papermaking and book arts. To assist in engaging more meaningfully with the book entitled a prayer in motion, we invited Shivanee Ramlochan, Trinidadian poet, essayist, and critic, to have a slow conversation with Ark about this very limited edition of six chapbooks. After the discussion, Joko talks us through her collaboration with Ark and their cooperative making of this chapbook which uses writing and the crafts of book arts to collectively respond to the physical environment of The Bahamas through an ecological lens. For the full report on the Lucayan Archipelago Residency, you may visit the link here: https://freshmilkbarbados.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/lucayan-archipelago-residency-report-draft-1_compressed.pdf

The poem will be, more and more blind, nothing but words:
No one will be able to truly hear them.
Something else will come in the ruins of time and friendship,
It won’t even be worth saying
One day writing will become too difficult

Orpheus and Creativity with James Meetze
Hello everyone, in this episode of the podcast I am speaking with James Meetze about Orpheus. Amongst other things we talk about Orpheus as somewhere in between Apollo and Dionysus, how his High School English teacher threw a book at him and after reading ‘Howl’ by Allen Ginsberg he started writing poetry, Orphic capability and the lyric Self, The San Francisco Renaissance - Jack Spicer, Robin Blaser and others, the long song, the serial poem, carmen perpetuum, and the Creativity program at Pacifica. James Meetze [pronounced Metz] is the author of five books of poetry, including Phantom Hour (2016) and Dayglo (2011), winner of the Sawtooth Poetry Prize. He divides his time between Split, Croatia and San Diego, California, where he teaches writing and film studies at University of Arizona Global Campus and in the Depth Psychology and Creativity program at Pacifica Graduate Institute.
