Het aantal asielzoekers wordt primair bepaald door push-factoren, zoals oorlog en onderdrukking in herkomstlanden. Zo kwamen er vóór 2014 nauwelijks Syriërs naar Nederland. Zonder Assads moorddadige beleid was het totale aantal asielzoekers na 2014 veel kleiner geweest (zie blauwe stippellijn).

Donald Trump's tariffs mainly damage the US. If the courts really do block them and/or they don't work and he turns to other things like manipulating the global dollar payments system, it could be far worse.
