Customs Union What do you know? You know ...

And here's the latest edition of MFN, in which I try to explain what a customs union is ... again.

My tip: go full niche to the point that you only communicate in acronyms. Drive away casual readers. Dad jokes.

In the event serious rejoin was ever on the cards I assume it would get fudged, but given volatility of UK politics I don’t think it is, and I’m even uncertain about the longevity of any tweaks to the relationship under the reset

03.12.2025 09:17 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. Rejoining would conceivably be positive for the UK economy, but it’s very difficult to foresee a situation in which rejoining leaves the UK in the same economic position as if it had never left.

It’s always sweet when the one year old gives you a surprise present, even when it’s a half chewed raspberry in your shoe.

Who killed Europe’s single market dream? A decades-long effort to tear down internal trade barriers has stalled, leaving the EU economy β€˜tagging along behind’

"In some 25 years only one French baker has been recognised by Germany as a meister permitted to run a bakery."

In fairness, French bread is not the national cuisine's best exhibit. www.ft.com/content/cbfd...

β€œWhat does running a bootstrapped news organisation involve?”

β€œWell aside from having to do the reporting, editing, commissioning, invoicing, and payroll… you also spend a lot of time posting garden implements to competition winners.”

Realised people won’t realise I’m joking (I know it’s the ONS not OBR in Newport), and allowed to be mean about Newport (I’m from Llanelli). Might delete.
