There is no reward for centering outreach and education and like I know that. It just still hurts.

I know it’s all a crapshoot and it’s only getting worse but I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t feel so defeating to have applied for so many grants and fellowships in the past four years and gotten literally nothing.

lol the academy thinks that it is above the fray, that science stands outside of politics, and that objectivity trumps all.

Now folks are quickly learning that everything, and I do mean everything, is political. And knowing that and responding accordingly is paramount.

lol two things:

1. Students are NOT bad at solidarity. Lots of professors are.

2. The complacency of the academy boils down to academics coasting on privilege. Many have never had to consider how the state would respond to their scholarship, and now they have to consider it.

As you said, even a statement about standing with us would be welcome. As it is, we’re hosting our own events and town halls.

Myself and my colleagues (members of our grad student phys/astro org) reached out to members of the department asking for words of reassurance, policies, plans, anything! Nothing received except an offer to come talk or vent whenever we need to, which is what we do for each other already.
