slipped between train doors,
half-waved from a dream platform.

A coat left on a hook.
The scent of rain unfallen.
I touched a life I didn’t live—
glass-thin,
and warm
on the other side.
Love unsaid,
as I watched it leave.

but let's pretend

A woman blocks my path.

“Do you have a #moment?” she asks me.

“I barely have time to breathe, miss.”

“That's fine, because I’ll do all the talking anyway.”

I start to walk, but she falls into step with me.

“What is your name?”

“Too valuable for a stranger’s clipboard.”

stolen #moments let sway
music chimes melodies en l’air
souls tango over a wooden pier
slipping and falling everywhere
the smile, oh the pretty smile
what will people say!

A brutal #moment today forced me to reckon with my own mortality. There I stood at Costco, staring down the plastic wrap dispenser, knowing full well I would not live long enough to see the end of a second 3000-square-foot roll in my lifetime.

“Familiar Walk”

There’s an old tale in my family that we have a male ancestor who fled Salem in the Witch Trials era for Maine, because of certain “accusations”. I can’t speak to the claim’s veracity, but I am a friend to witches, and I do like cats and 17th century occult motifs a lot.

I'm fine. But, still grappling with grief. I didn't meet and hug her for 4 months before her death. Regret is insurmountable.
