I mean, sure, I'll take any excuse to trot out, what I consider to be, some of my best work.

The Stargrave Scavengers are a kit I quite like, despite always sounding really ambivalent on them. They're quite generic, which I mean as a positive; they're useful for loads of things, like this bloke who'll pull duty in Zona Alfa or Five Klicks From the Zone.

I still really love the tiny touches like the ruddy nose and ears, this guy's the Dawi's danglers.

That sounds like a pretty interesting way of examining something like that in depth, too. Having to look at the mechanics of something and turn it over from different angles to really see the outcomes... that's kind of a fascinating approach.

Right? The fact that we even have contemporary diaries and combat chronicles from Heer units that'd hear there were SS on their flank and be going "oh for god's sake, those dicks" kinda tells you something!

So there you have it. Realising now how long it's been... yeah, I'll put my hand up to that. Wholly deliberate and it worked like a charm.

If you're going to play historical wargames, c'mon now. Read a little history. I'm not saying you need a degree, but obviously some folks could use a refresher.

Every now and then, years later, I still get some foaming, furious comment or, less commonly, some sneering, high-minded posturing from someone that thinks they're going to catch me out on - and remember, here - 'The Nazis were the bad guys.'

This, folks, is what we call a block farm.

There's a difference between a Soviet peasant, an American draftee, a British paratrooper... and literally the armed branch of fascism.

"But in late war there were SS draftees!"

So you *know* some of the history and you're still arguing with the Nazis were the bad guys? Uh-huh.

This, as one might surmise, made a bunch of people very, very cross. Why didn't you do this for the Soviet videos? Why call out the SS specifically? Why are you virtue signalling? But you paint other bad guys all the time!

The Waffen SS existed to further the worst goals of the Nazi party. C'mon.

The point I went on with is that these guys aren't just off a list of made-up armies in a fictional setting; they aren't different candy coatings on your Space Marines. They have weighty historical context, so. Know the history. That's pretty much it. Understand the context of what you're painting.

I did then point out that no, you don't need to grovel and apologize for putting SS on the tabletop; they are, after all, historical truth. Some folks don't want to do that, and that's understandable. But someone's gotta play the bad guy, right? The encouragement was then to do some reading.

Okay, time I come clean after four years.

The introduction to the SS painting guide I did which contained what is apparently a trigger phrase, 'The Nazis were the bad guys,' was bait.

It worked exactly as planned; this is *the* most disliked of any of my videos.

Let me at last elaborate.

It's probably about time I revisited this, maybe did Erbsenmuster as well. Make sure to include a brief introduction that makes everybody mad as hell because they hear half of it and their brains stop working and proceed to yell at me, essentially quoting me back. XD

So in this instance, 'secret' is a word here used literally to mean "a small dog," when figuratively it could also mean, "a small, harried potato that hasn't known the warm weight of sleep and dreams for forty or more years."

There's nothing so utterly devastating as the Irish 'grand.' Oh, chief, you done lost that battle! 😂

There's also a little box of Ground Zero Games 15mm stuff I found while rummaging through my bits (hunting for some @badsquiddogames.bsky.social miniatures instead!) which deserve some love at long last.

I want to get much weirder.

I've got something lined up for a hobby project in January that's not exactly top secret, but I'm not yelling from the treetops just yet...

...but I think I'm going to make 2026 the year of smaller scale stuff. I really want to finish a couple 10mm armies for O Group, for starters.

And while I appreciate the suggestions for what to do next, folks, none of them really address that I had *already* finished what I wanted to demonstrate, and that's now fucked. This is useless to me except to strip and start over; there's no 'coming back' with this thing.

I have had a good sulk, a drink, and listened to some Will Wood about it. As one does.
