On this day in 2015, @raleighgov.bsky.social purchased the 308-acre property now known as Dix Park to create an extraordinary park. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish in the next 10 years!

Happy Juneteenth! Dix Park was once Spring Hill plantation, where African Americans were enslaved. Descendants of Ned, John, and Isaac Hunter continue to honor their ancestors’ legacy. We honor the vital role they play in the story of Dix Park.

The Pollinator Hotel is a trio of steel sculptures providing a habitat for native bees, moths, and butterflies. It houses a variety of sizes of cardboard tubing as nesting environments within the sculpture.

Next time you stop by, say thanks to our pollinators! 🐝💛

The Apiary, a gazebo shaped steel structure with cut-out designs like that of insect wings, is glazed in a holographic paint that reflects direct sunlight to mimic the way bees see color. Three wooden beehives house colonies of urban bees maintained by Bee Downtown

It's #PollinatorWeek 🐝💛 Pollinator Week is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health and here at Dix Park we love our pollinators! Near the sunflower field, you might notice the Apiary and Pollinator Hotel, public art pieces for both people and pollinators! 🧵

Gipson Play Plaza is the perfect place to cool off in the summer! ☀️💦 At the peak of Gipson Play Plaza is Watermill Mountain, a cascading waterplay wonderland, kid-powered with pulleys, pumps, spouts, dams. Make sure to bring a change of clothes because kids will get wet!

We've got lots of food and beverage options to keep you fueled up for adventure Grand Opening Weekend! Enjoy fresh food, snacks & drinks from the House of Many Porches Market, plus over a dozen food trucks! 🥪🍦 Outside food allowed, grills/seating first come, first serve.

Park ASMR: Gipson Play Plaza Edition ⛲ Kids (and kids at heart) can cool off this summer by playing at the waterfall and splashpad, located in the Fountain Plaza.
