YouTube screenshot displaying two videos in Spanish and English, respectively, with their titles translated to the other language (e.g. native Spanish translated to English and vice-versa).
YouTube's automatic translation feature has gotten out of hand. Here are two videos in Spanish and English translated to the other language unnecessarily. Mind you, I speak both languages fluently and would prefer to keep each video in its native language. It cannot be disabled afaik.

A small mixed breed dog laying melancholically on a brown couch. A fluffy gray pillow is behind her for comfort. Authors note: the dog is adorable!
Generative A.I. has made me cynical about new artists in the independent music scene that streamers seem to push, and I hate it. I just want to listen to new music from real human artists, is that too much to ask for?

Automation will lead to more layoffs. In theory, if production costs are reduced, it can lead to cheaper prices for consumers.
As we know, this will never happen. Corporations and billionaires need to be taxed accordingly and fairly. They should be the ignition for Universal Basic Income.

This is why Google (Android) wants to control what apps you install on your device and will be limiting what you are allowed to install outside of its app store (AKA sideloading). Apple already has mechanisms in place, Google is joining their efforts.

That is a good point! I supposed we should ask the team if they define intolerant speech and hate speech equally.
I don't want to rewrite the white conversation, but there's a thread of a discussion I had with another replier of why "rest in piss" can be considered hate speech.
12.09.2025 19:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I don't believe Bluesky's team are malicious or believe Kirk's speech is in the same boat, as another replier put it, but I do believe they want to protect their platform. If they are actually doing that is a different conversation whatsoever.
12.09.2025 19:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I've seen plenty of critiques of Charlie Kirk here, but I do think Bluesky has a line that they do not want crossed on their platform. Whether we, as users, agree or not is personal.
My personal opinion about the phrase aside, the platform's opinion is the one that moderates it.
12.09.2025 19:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
They are not in the same boat at all, and I don't know why you think I would label them as such.
I am, I repeat myself, trying to understand Bluesky's moderation choices.
12.09.2025 19:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Yes, of course. We know the intent of the words we use. I am sure most, if not all, of commenters do not mean to incite or glorify violence. The interpretation of those words _can be_ hateful, which is why I believe Bluesky is removing them, not because they are inherently hateful.
12.09.2025 19:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
I'm not arguing Kirk didn't speak in hate speech, nor that he wasn't hateful. He was a highly despicable man, and his examples of hate speech are numerous, as you pointed out. I am trying to understand Bluesky's moderation choices.
12.09.2025 19:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0
Kirk was hateful, there's no doubt about that. "Rest in piss" isn't hateful in itself, sure, but can be given the context.
If Kirk had passed from disease or natural causes, it would be fine. But because he was assassinated, it can be argued that it glorifies violence, even if it's not the intent.
12.09.2025 19:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
True, but we are held to Bluesky's standard in using this service, whether we agree or not.

hate speech
1. public speech that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person orβ¦
The first point can be argued either way, I will admit.
The second point, what language organization does Reuters conform to? Because hate speech has been clearly defined in common dictionaries and by international organizations.
Legally speaking, in US Law, you are correct, however.

to allow hate speech to flourish. I don't think Bluesky wants that at all. They clearly want to differentiate themselves from Twitter and have seemed to learn from Twitter's mistakes (I hope).
12.09.2025 18:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I struggle to understand how much hateful speech Bluesky is willing to tolerate. "Rest in piss" is clearly hateful. Although it is relatively benign to Kirk's, and some conservative extremists, own hate speech, I don't think we need to lower ourselves to their standards. It takes one small misstep-

I disagree. For example, describing his discourse as "divisive" instead of "often-provocative" would be more accurate.
Describing his speech as "hate speech" would be more accurate as well, without an intent at an inflammatory description, as it's an objective description of Kirk's rhetoric.
12.09.2025 18:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
It is an incomplete and sanewashed description of Kirk's character.
12.09.2025 18:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
"Known for his often-provocative discourse on race, gender, immigration and gun regulation, Kirk would use such events to invite members of the crowd to debate him live, and was frequently challenged by both people on the left and the far right."
12.09.2025 18:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
There's significant hate-washing in this article. My trust in Reuter's ability to objectively present facts is slowly eroding. I believe, in their attempt to maintain neutrality, accurately reporting on a hateful individual's discourse will seem partisan or politically leaning towards one side.
