The Trump administration and the Republicans that enable him have spent the last year cutting programs that help US, in order to fund untrained thugs terrorizing our communities and murdering citizens.

Our leaders have 2 weeks to rein them in! Keep up the pressure!

Important update: a federal judge has ruled that Russ Vought & OMB were breaking the law & must tell the public exactly how they are spending (or not spending) funds appropriated by Congress.

I wrote this law years ago to ensure transparency and accountability.

What kind of criminal is this? Who is safer because he was kidnapped?

Grieffor them is on my heart. Does his father even know? Who told him and how cruel have they been about it? Shame.

So nothing has changed and Homan was just to put a new face on the cruelty, got it

Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But heโ€™s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

โ€œWhen they say, โ€˜Why would you be out here?โ€™ How the fuck could I not be out here?โ€ he says. โ€œMy nation is under attack."

Wish I heard their stories because I care about how the work tension got so bad, how they were ousted and the pain after years of false security in service to all of us.

Now many are without jobs &money and food. The trauma of it all while being silent or silenced. Hugs

Abolish ICE is not enough.

Stern words for Greg Bovino or Kristi Noem is not enough.

We need prosecutions and trials.

Anything short of this position fails to address the gravity of this moment.

Even if they didn't die this is abuse of power. Healthcare needed for them and their family should be demanded along with investigation, transparency and being held accountable.

Shouldn't just be protesters but all people that aren't proven criminals of laws. Not infractions or civil cases but rape and murder with judicial cases pending.

Our country has been hijacked by mob bosses who use corruption, extortion, and intimidation to instill fear and submission into all of us.

When we reopen the government, we must fight to make sure itโ€™s working for you, not the mob bosses in power.

A 17 y/o guy ran down two 17
y/o girls in his car, killing them both. The reason he murdered them was because one of them spurned his advances and the other insulted Charlie Kirk. He then laughed about their deaths on a gaming site.

He was NOT arrested. He was ticketed instead.

Q
What Are the Origins of the Comstock Act?
In 1873 - at the behest of anti-vice crusader, Anthony Comstock - Congress enacted a law banning the interstate mailing and receiving of
"obscene, lewd, or lascivious" writings, or "any article or thing designed or intended for the prevention of conception or procuring an abortion." In 1909, Congress enacted a similar law banning the use of express company or common carrier (such as FedEx or UPS) to mail
"any drug, medicine, article, or thing designed, adapted, or intended for preventing conception or producing abortion, or for any indecent or immoral use." These laws came to be known collectively as the Comstock Act. The scope of what constituted obscene or lewd material was far broader at the time, and in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Comstock Act was used to prosecute a wide array of violations.

How the Comstock Act became inactive for books
โ€ข Passed in 1873: The original Comstock Act made it illegal to send "obscene, lewd, or lascivious" materials through the U.S. mail, which was interpreted to cover a broad range of publications, including anatomy books and classic literature.
โ€ข Obscenity standard narrowed: Over decades, court rulings progressively narrowed the scope of what is considered legally obscene, limiting the act's reach. Key Supreme Court decisions, including Roth v. United States (1957) and Miller v.
California (1973), established a more precise definition of obscenity, making it much harder to prosecute the mailing of books.
โ€ข Free speech protections: Subsequent First Amendment challenges further protected free speech rights, rendering the Comstock Act obsolete for censoring non-obscene publications.
As a result, the mailing of most magazines and books is now considered common and legal.
โ€ข Modern focus is different: Today, enforcement of the Comstock Act's obscenity provisions is focused almost exclusively on child and violent pornography.

For Monday of Banned Books Week, we explore the Comstock Acts, enacted in 1873 and 1909. While we tend to think of this federal law today in terms of efforts to restrict access to birth control and abortion medications, they originally targeted literature as well. (Thread)
