In Pikmin 4 Ask the Developer, Miyamoto-san literally said:

“ピクミンは、あなたの近くにいるよ”
→ Pikmin are close to you

(The official English transcript is “Pikmin are all around us” instead, because they translated it idiomatically instead of literally.)

At first I was very nervous worrying that this was more Pikmin related than it was letting on, and fearing for the direction of my fave IP.

Looking now, I think the leitmotif used is purposefully Pikmin-esque NOT to connect Pikmin to it, but more to subtly connect the child's experience to Pikmin.

I genuinely have no clue what that could be. It could maybe be a Pikmin, it could just be a block moving around. I think if it was meant to be anything they’d make it slightly more decipherable

The series tone has definitely shifted over time, that is definitely true…

I am certain this isn’t a tease for any new Pikmin project, it’s just some musical easter eggs
