I got to do all the things that most people do when they celebrate the holidays. Not take a modified day or move everyone's hours around to account for me.

My job is not normal, nor is it something anyone can do.

But for once in a long time, I *felt* normal.

Its hard to describe how nice that is.

Working in my field has its ups and downs sometimes... but I just realized my current job has given me something I havent had in over a decade.

Christmas and New Year's off.

Every year for the last 10 years, I was either working both days or home sick with COVID.

This year... I was just off.

Not quite... 39°N latitude roughly? Very far south for an aurora to appear, but I've seen people as far south as central Florida reporting it last night.

This is the first time I have ever seen the aurora in person.

I never imagined the first time I'd see them would be from my backyard.

I just sat and stared at them for a half hour and was beside myself excited. Like genuine excitement.

"Aiya" has worked its way into my work vocabulary as a term of exasperation, and I attribute it entirely to you and use it as an homage.
