One of the things that comes to mind, is incredibly poor leadership with no foresight.

The problem is ill-informed leaders and concerned citizens, not an uncommon problem in this country.

It must be great to live where there's biking infrastructure that Class 3 e-bikes and throttles cause problems. Where I live, you're competing with large SUVs/pickups that routinely drive near 40 mph in a 25 mph residential zone and >45 mph on 4-lane 35 mph zone, with no bike lanes.

Uh oh, goodbye Tweed flat-hats.

I'm way past the age where I look good in Spandex biking shorts, but I still ride in them (even on an e-bike) because they don't ride up and the butt padding is great. Folks should ride in what they feel comfortable with. The more people riding, the better.

Headed to Minneapolis this weekend, hoping to rent a road bike! Anyone know of a shop that rents road bikes?

I'd agree. Many years ago, when I first moved to where I live, I rode frequently, some years later the traffic got so dangerous, I stopped. Recently started back, and I have a much greater appreciation for safety and bike rides in general now. Age might have something to do with it too. :P

A nice glass of hazy IPA (5.5% ABV).

Nothing like a good walk, or ride and a refreshment!

update: there are now 'sidewalk closed' signs at appropriate locations, but no warnings about the bike lane closure and, crucially, no signs directing travelers where to go.

Only dog owners would really understand the appeal of very clean water.

Not to mention the Timothy Taylor apron!!
