Getting Britain out of the hole A plan for the UK economy

For those who missed it, here is the serious report dealing with evidence and facts about how we get out of the hole we are in.

Spoiler alert - it doesnโ€™t build walls, seek to demonize migrants or rip up diplomatic relations. It of course does the exact opposite.

Why we - and the Home Secretary - disapply the ECHR at our peril By Jessica Frank-Keyes

As Labour proposes limiting the protection of the ECHR, we must remember what it was set up to do; protect us all from abuses of power by our govts.
Be v wary then of anyone calling to do that. You may not be the target now. But why shouldnโ€™t you be next?

There is no evidence that stripping refugees' rights one by one will have any impact on people crossing the channel.

Taking jewellery from refugees is akin to painting over murals for refugee children.

These repugnant โ€˜deterrentsโ€™ did not work for the Tories, and they won't work for us.

When it comes to designing cities for biking and walking, Ghent Belgium may still not be as well known as Copenhagen, Amsterdam or Paris yet, but itโ€™s one of the most inspiring cities in the world. I was honoured to do some work with them in 2019. Watch @streetfilms.bsky.socialโ€™s fantastic video:

AI Is Hollowing Out Higher Education Olivia Guest & Iris van Rooij urge teachers and scholars to reject tools that commodify learning, deskill students, and promote illiteracy.

โ€œWhile the AI industry claims its models can โ€œthink,โ€ โ€œreason,โ€ and โ€œlearn,โ€ their supposed achievements rest on marketing hype and stolen intellectual labor. In reality, AI erodes academic freedom, weakens critical reading, and subordinates the pursuit of knowledge to corporate interests.โ€

The UK facilitates 26% of this global tax abuse, and has the power to expose it.

As a beekeeper, I've been thinking a lot about the terrifying collective power of honeybees. When you are in the colony and you piss off 40k or 100k divas who will move AS ONE against you...one cannot help but think of how we could look to the bee for wisdom on collective resistance.

Starmer's Labour and Farage's Reform are both on the same team to steer the UK towards corporatism/fascism. Entrap, impoverish and enslave the people in a fully privatised corporatist hellscape of SEZs and freeports. Its the same money behind both of them.

"Mainstream economists nowadays might not be particularly good at predicting financial crashes, facilitating general prosperity, or coming up with models for preventing climate change, but when it comes to establishing themselves in positions of intellectual authority, unaffected by their failings, their success is unparalleled. Neo-Liberalism, Trickle-down economics, Thatcherism or whatever you call it really has more in common with fundamentalist religion than anything else.

I would argue that the real current scandal for which the BBC should be held to account is its role in over-promoting a ragbag of right wing MPs who are front of the queue for its destruction
