4: Rewatched “All the President’s Men.” Definitely a pursuit movie, Woodward & Bernstein (Redford and Hoffman) gradually gathering information about the Watergate cover-up. I’d forgotten that Hal Holbrook as Deep Throat is only in 3 scenes, his presence was so iconic

3: Realizing that “Death Proof” fit the challenge allowed me to get to 💯 Tarantino. I went from “this is actually awesome” to “I dunno, maybe it’s a little gory and creepy for me” to “no, this is kinda awesome” by the ending chase scene. Not my favorite QT but not bad in a shock B-movie way.

2: “Identity Thief,” Jason Bateman chases down the woman who stole his identity (Melissa McCarthy.) It’s a poor man’s “Midnight Run”; guy tracks down someone and then they’re both in turn tracked down cross-country by the real bad guys. McCarthy supplies some laughs, but “nah” overall.

1: “Insomnia,” the original 1997 one. Stellan Skarsgård chases down a killer in the land of the Midnight Sun. I had seen the Christopher Nolan remake (also for a challenge!) and while I don’t really mind the tweaks to the story in that one, I did like the cleaner, less cluttered version of it here.

4: Rewatched “Adaptation.” Charlie Kaufman-written film about “Charlie Kaufman” not knowing how to adapt a book about orchids. Was almost rewatched for several challenges lately: Based on a written source! Multiple roles! (Nic Cage plays twin brothers.) Based on a true story! (For a while, anyway.)

3:”Bottle Shock,” a comedy about California wines beating French wines in a tasting competition. Arguably more about wines than plants but: vineyards! I liked the “snooty Alan Rickman scheming to get the wines to Europe” subplot more than the “father-and-son battle over the family winery” storyline
