23.01.2025 22:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I find it is important that teachers set a good example, so being 'good' in school is beneficial. However, the teachers (including myself) who didn't always follow the rules and got in trouble do seem to relate well to the more challenging students and build positive relationships with them

16.11.2024 22:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks for the detailed reply. This seems like a win win situation as using supply agency staff can cause huge disruption for students as they are not used to school systems and expectations. Now to present this idea to our head...
16.11.2024 10:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I remember my parents saying to me when I was young (in the 90s) that the 60s weren't long ago. My own answer to them haunts me now...
16.11.2024 10:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Your posts about no external supply keep popping up and I always wonder how you do it? We have cover supervisors but they are often supplemented by agency cover

16.11.2024 09:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A good thing! We all want our mentors to be well trained and prepared, the 20 hour requirement was putting too much pressure on our teaching staff.
13.11.2024 22:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Back in my early days of teaching, any type of praise was seen to be good. As this article highlights, there are many better ways to praise students. Just making them feel good isn't enough, you need to be specific and the best teaching I've seen does exactly this

Interesting article. Not sure how the French manage to support pupils if they are off-site when not teaching, but maybe that's a major reason why teachers are so stressed in the UK?

10.09.2024 18:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A few things I've learned from doing the school timetable for the first time this year.
1. It's actually a more important job than I thought. Making sure that all subjects can deliver their curriculum effectively.
2. As well planned as I thought I was, many unpredictable challenges can occur, often.
Really interested in this strategy. Similar to identifying the highest leverage action steps.

27.08.2024 14:15 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Green is sitting in front of a laptop, turning to look at Blue, who is outside of the panel. Green: Hey Blue? I think I broke my laptop for good. Blue arrives at the scene, looking at the screen keenly with Green. Blue: Did you try turning it off and on again? Green: Yes. Blue takes a closer look at the computer, while Green freezes in mortified silence. Blue: No, you just put it on standby. See? Green still looks at the screen, stunned and embarrassed, as Blue kisses him on the cheek. Green: ...I swear I thought was better than this. Blue: It happens.
