I really, REALLY wish people would internalize the absolute stranglehold voter suppression and gerrymandering have over many red states with high BIPOC populations (who reliably vote blue) before consistently writing off these entire states and saying shit like “they deserved it”.

While I was waiting at the bus stop this morning a woman came up to me asking me to sign what sounded like a petition to require higher restrictions on certain vaccines “because they cause autism,” so I asked “What’s wrong with being autistic?” —

The only prayer that matters when it comes to the regular and repeated murder of American children while they are at school is the kind of prayer that is taking action, the kind of prayer that materially fights for the living, the kind of prayer that says "never again" and means it, from MN to Gaza.

I think it’s high time we take back the national narrative. For centuries Americans of all races, genders, religions, and abilities have worked to create a more perfect union, and we should shout from the rooftops that WE are America. Not these idiot white supremacist authoritarians.

I do this referring to stuffed toys and random animals when talking to my toddler. The default for kids’ things is still “he” and I’m so bothered by it! Still remember years ago working at an educational farm, a kid said of the cow, “look at his udder!”

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Another one: life events that would otherwise be manageable are difficult, and what was previously difficult is now devastating. Every little thing feels harder, so a bunch of us are just running on fumes.

So many people I know in the US are emotionally dysregulated (politically, how could you not be?) and their relationships are paying the price.

It’s tough to watch so many of us take it out on each other, whether with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, public figures, comment sections.
