I still find joy in writing CLIs for Go using Viper/Cobra, but Clap almost gets me there in Rust. No question about power, just ergonomics.

26.01.2026 14:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You mean multiple, for a redundant backup, right?

20.01.2026 21:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Are you using Clippy to look for unsafe, unwrap, etc?
20.01.2026 18:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs not quite that. Box<T> does get resolved to a specific concrete type or trait, so the compiler does not need to trust; it knows.
Put another way, if the thing accepting Box<T> needs T to be numeric, the compiler will complain if you attempt to give it a string.
I secretly like it when my Argo-CD apps are degraded.

But step 1 was, weβre here to see how we work together & communicate, not primarily to solve the bug.
14.04.2025 07:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Have done both real pail programming, and a βgreek choirβ version β where candidate hacks and interviewer is there to discuss, answer questions, give context, suggest, explore together, etc. Both have led to a higher understanding of candidateβs skills and likelihood if success.

04.04.2025 05:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds a smidge like Golangβs int and uint; 64 bits most of the time, unless you are on a 32 bit system.

30.03.2025 21:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, this is something that Iβm curious about. In theory, there becomes a point where that hardware that runs these systems (SSA, etc.) needs to be retired.
What is the compatibility between existing COBOL code and modern hardware? Or what is the effort in migrating to such a platform?
After two moves I stumbled upon mine, along with a half dozen half completed projects and random bulk parts for a few more.

Answering my own questionβ¦. www.loudersound.com/features/ste...
The last language that I dove into was Go; the tools made it a good experience. Just βgo buildβ and youβre off. Let me not speak of JS/TS or Python for anything bigger than βhello worldβ. Once the package manager wars concluded, I was sold all over again.
Rust is giving me similar vibes.
Right when Iβm in OH? Youβre welcome.

23.03.2025 12:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Is there a name for a software pattern, where a short-lived instance of a program will look for a long-running / backend / daemon version _of itself_ (ie, not a different binary), and start one if itβs not running?
