07.02.2026 15:57 β π 23 π 14 π¬ 2 π 1The Board of Governors decided, unilaterally, that no published textbook in the field of sociology could be used in compliance with the law for an Intro to Sociology class. None. Victor: There's not a single existing textbook on the market that could be used that would qualify under state law? Zachary: Correct. Victor: I'm sorry, that's kind of funny. Like, the absurdity of not a single sociology textbook getting past the censors. I mean, it makes me kind of proud of our colleagues, but...
I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.
Great work everyone.
π¨NEW: A federal judge out of Oregon has issued a sweeping rebuke of the DOJβs nationwide push to seize state voter rolls.
The opinion released Thursday concluded that the department can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith and warned that its conduct threatens voters and statesβ rights.
Reminder that ICE facilities are supposed to be civil, not criminal. And yet they have been designed under Trump to be concentration camps so terrible detainees will choose βvoluntaryβ deportation rather than continue living there.
This is evil. And history will view itβand its participantsβthus.
If they make a sequel to Muppets Take Manhattan I hope they do it while heβs mayor and put him in it.
06.02.2026 11:26 β π 1722 π 235 π¬ 32 π 14We know why they won't let folks in.
The places are horrible. I have been there. The children are abused, fed poorly, jailed in crowded & dirty rooms with bunk beds.
Privacy is non-existent. The lights never turn off. It is cold.
They aren't allowed enough time to go outside and play.
So many DHS/ICE "reform" ideas floating around as the budget fight in Congress develops.
From 2010-2014, I helped negotiate & enforce consent decrees relating to racist/violent police agencies across the country as part of the U.S DOJ's Civil Rights Division (RIP!).
Here are my general thoughts.

05.02.2026 14:25 β π 17 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0And I hear the concerns about all the energy that this is causing the DoJ to expend, but, with respect, some of it is of your own making by not complying with orders. Do you understand that? MS. LE: I do. And I share the same concern with you, Your Honor. I am not white, as you can see. And my family's at risk as any other people that might get picked up too, so I share the same concern, and I took that concern to heart. But, again, fixing a system, a broken systemβ¦
I have to admit, under the circumstances, I donβt find this sympathetic. I find it incredibly galling. She was a ICE attorney. Did she think the judge was born yesterday?

Far from laying people off, we're hiring *more* journalists and growing vital, democracy-building work.
And we have no paywalls!

If you live or work in the Washington, DC region, I strongly suggest you look into this.
04.02.2026 20:02 β π 7 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0As a Texas journalist, I cannot say enough how absolutely stupid it is to lay of PATRICK SVITEK during an election year. What idiocy. Also harrowing: An already impossible job market being flooded with the most talented reporters of my generation. God help us all.
04.02.2026 18:28 β π 98 π 29 π¬ 4 π 2Spare a thought for my local DC peeps who are bearing the brunt of all this chaos. And still under national guard occupation.
And now have even more layoffs and the trickle down effects of that.
In less than a week the Kennedy Center has effectively closed and our local DC paper has been gutted, both by billionaires.
I donβt think immigrants are our problem in this country.

04.02.2026 15:35 β π 36 π 6 π¬ 3 π 0I do not want to hear the Speaker of the House make a biblical case, nor take a question from a reporter inviting him to do so. He is not competent to do so, esp since he lives in a state of sin constantly bearing false witness and supporting a covetous President who evangelizes the 7 deadly sins.

03.02.2026 18:33 β π 43 π 24 π¬ 2 π 0WRONG. I-205 administrative warrants are not issued by immigration judges. Theyβre signed by ICE officers. And EVEN IF THEY WERE issued by an immigration judge - they are executive branch employees, NOT judicial branch. JUDICIAL warrants are needed to enter a home without consent.

The question was about HOMES. He just spoke about ARRESTS.
Those are two VERY different things for warrants.
ICE is trying to undermine that distinction, which motivated the question, but Johnson bounced around it.
I was a White House ethics lawyer.
I used to advise people not to even accept a free cup of coffee from someone who had interests before them. And staff followed those rules.
I canβt even find the words to describe the scale of Trumpβs corruption here.

death by preventable disease is an inevitable and even desired outcome of concentration camps. in every era of concentration camps people have died of typhus, which is a disease of privation and enforced crowding. this illness is intentionally inflicted
