This city is at its best when it is full of art made by and for New Yorkers. Access to the arts growing up here, through student discounts and education programs, is why I have a career in theater. It means a lot to see a politician champion this cause

I don't think I'll ever stop being mad at that industry and I'm left with comics PTSD for ever trying to fit into it.

It was more important to change one's SNS profile pic to a fist with pens/paint brushes between the fingers to look powerful for having the courage to draw a series titled "My Dumb Comics" or smth similar.

Nevermind I wrote a straight-up article to point out how Arab cartoonists were getting killed or maimed for drawing actual provocative work. But oh no I talked about Arabs. Immediate ignore.

I'm getting a lotta flashbacks to how CH did this nonsense for eons, resulting in that horrific attack on their offices, and indy cartoonists took it to mean they were all collectively under attack, and acted like they were badass for drawing Zippy the Pinhead or w/e.

I was in a cafe in Kyoto and saw an older Japanese gentleman wearing a kuffiyeh scarf w/the Palestinian flag on it. I told him that I was Palestinian and thanked him. He told me was on his way to see the movie Jenin Jenin & he was happy that I was there.
These are the interactions that I live for.

Good example of how an acronym can dehumanize consequences and mask what’s going on. Syntactically, “Diversity slayer,” “equity slayer,” or “inclusion slayer” sounds weird. They aren’t “slaying” these things; they’re promoting and supporting their opposites: segregation, unfairness, and exclusion.

The donations that have come in have helped their lives immensely and have allowed them to survive. The money is still very much needed and will be put toward surviving the winter.

I'm still working with these two families in Gaza. The "ceasefire" has barely made an improvement and both families are living in dire situations that lack warmth and shelter. Winter is approaching, which is the rainy season--not suitable for living in tents.

Even though front-door person explicitly said to keep my shoes on. And, yeah, I could have gone around explaining the situation, but at that point it was wayyyy too awkward & I left in shame.
And real talk, this story is the perfect anecdote that explains my time in NY comic circles lol.

My logic was that, if no one else took off their shoes, my socks would get nasty.
But, no, actually--can't remember if everyone else removed their shoes, but I was def the one making a big melty mess everywhere. And since I did not know anyone at this party, I got dirty looks all 'round. -->

Because there was snow stuck deep in the treads. Whoever answered the door (I thought it was one of the organizers but now I'm not sure) said "oh nah, it's fine!" and I was like, really? And against my better judgement, I kept my snowy shoes on b/c I assumed everyone else did the same? -->

Random event I remembered, but I was invited to a yearly cartoonist holiday event in Brooklyn once, years ago. It had snowed the day before, so streets were still icy & I had on snow boots with heavy treads.
Got to the house & I said, oh yeah I should take off my shoes, right? -->
