sorry but big time skip on the beholder costume. all the texturing finished and painted. used heavy body acrylic paints, applied with big mop brushes and then smaller detail brushes

a little close up of the texture detail application. I made a Voronoi pattern and used my cameo to cut it from thin craft foam. then spray adhesive to apply it.
in progress construction of beholder costume. large foam skull with one central eye, gaping mouth with many sharp teeth. textured with foam clay and thin cut foam

reposting a couple of these because I forgot tags.
using foam clay to cover seams and to add texture. also laying out the locations where the eyeball tentacles will connect. these need to be removable for transport of the costume.

beholder eye installed now but masked to avoid any paint or glue screw ups. made a lot of teeth by carving and dremeling foam and then installing with glue. started texturing the jaw using thin foam and foam clay

I removed the jaw since it remains a separate piece so it can be moved. cut out the big central eye and started making the eyeballs. the eyenall is made from a plastic dome and the iris formed and carved from foam clay

next step is filling the eye sockets because the beholder only needs one. also carve out the mouth to be a little less smiley.
btw this costume is actually finished and on the way to dragoncon. Just thought it might be interesting to show some steps in the build process

1st step in building beholder costume. Used a skull pattern from kamuicosplay, scaled it up a lot, and constructed from 10mm eva foam.
