Under the heading "They Will Call You Violent" the text reads: If your tactics disrupt the order of things under capitalism, you may well be accused of violence, because violence is an elastic term often deployed to vilify people who threaten the status quo. Conditions that the state characterizes as "peaceful" are, in reality, quite violent. Even as people experience the violence of poverty the torture of imprisonment, the brutality of policing, the denial of health care, and many other violent functions of this system, we are told we are experiencing peace, as long as everyone is cooperating. When state actors refer to "peace," they are really talking about order. And when they refer to peaceful protest, they are talking about cooperative protest that obediently stays within the lines drawn by the state. The more uncooperative you are, the more you will be accused of aggression and violence. It is therefore imperative that the state not be the arbiter of what violence means among people seeking justice.

Be careful, friends, when you read accounts of what is happening in LA. We will hear a lot about violence, and it is essential to remember who is defining that term.

Maybe it's useful to know that Altman uses a knife that's showy but incohesive and wrong for the job; he wastes huge amounts of money on olive oil that he uses recklessly; and he has an automated coffee machine that claims to save labour while doing the exact opposite because it can't be trusted. His kitchen is a catalogue of inefficiency, incomprehension, and waste. If that's any indication of how he runs the company, insolvency cannot be considered too unrealistic a threat.

This may genuinely be one of the most devastating things I've seen about a tech CEO in the mainstream media. Amazing.

Not to be too pro technocrat, but it is astounding how much this country depended on the selflessness of like a few hundred thousand highly educated public servants who, for peanuts, made sure our food and medicine and environment etc were safe. And in return these servants were demonized.

But on an early mid-March morning, agents entered his father’s house in Maryland and took Salazar and his father away in handcuffs. Afterwards, scrolling through his social media on their phones, agents interrogated Salazar and asked him to identify various people in his network. Salazar saw one of the agents writing down in his notes something about a gun – an English word he recognized, he said. The agents did not show him the image, but Salazar remembers insisting to them that whatever they saw was probably a toy water pistol. The Guardian has reviewed an image that Salazar’s family thinks Ice may have been referring to, it shows a person standing near Salazar with a blue-and-white item peeking out of a pants pocket that resembles a small plastic water pistol. Salazar was recorded in the authorities’ computer system as an alleged member of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua criminal gang and was made to wear green prison clothing that signifies an alleged gangster, according to a court filing.

WOW. @tanvi.bsky.social reports ICE was going to send a TEENAGER to be imprisoned in El Salvador without a trial because an officer thought a blue and white water pistol was a real gun!

He has NO criminal record, was attending school, has a pending asylum hearing, and has never gotten into trouble!

This is real.
