I'm used to healthcare in this country now but the structure still feels weird. Especially separate bills from the facility and each "independent contractor" provider involved in imaging, surgery, etc. Layers of administrative friction that just add unnecessary cost. I get why, but it's irritating.

I feel that. At the height of the lockdowns, our landlord (who lived forever away, on Bainbridge) emailed something like "where's the rent, it was due yesterday" - the adrenaline spike was huge, but was followed by "that electronic transfer went through days ago, WTF". He'd just misread his account.

The focus on the new year for that stuff is just unnecessary pressure. We can decide what we want to do differently whenever we want!

I know not everyone agrees but I genuinely love the climate in this part of the PNW. Beautiful temperate rainforest. Summer isn't usually too hot/humid or too long. Now I'm making plans to drive out for snowshoeing because snow is available nearby but weather that cold is rare at home. Bliss.

Someone we know just got back from Korea and brought us a cat-shaped rice paddle. It's cuter than any other tool in our kitchen and I think I'll have to force myself to use it instead of just keeping it as a display item.

A good proportion of my bsky feed is soccer people, so I've seen related stuff multiple times and the universal reaction to this is "WTF"

Thanks! I went straight into a busy work day afterwards, so, uh, not exactly, but I've gradually calmed down, or at least returned to stress about deadlines instead

I reacted in what I think was the right way - not running, yelling, looking bigger. Just as I had got them to stop a short distance away and my thoughts went from "how do I protect myself" to "how do I contact animal control" their owner shouted for them from two blocks away and they ran off.
