Just out: Open metadata enable large-scale hybrid open access studies. Cross-database comparison using major bibliometric databases shows that transformative agreements have been the main driver of open access. But paywalls still dominate.

Two websites, one journal. The Journal of Informetrics has been hijacked. This is not just any journal, it's a well-known title published by Elsevier.
More journals from reputable publishers are being hijacked since recently.
Guess which screenshot belongs to the original journal?

Curious about disruption indicators?
On June 11, 2-3, we will have two presentations and a discussion on:

Was inspiring meeting Prof. @stefhaustein.scholcommlab.ca at GESIS today. Time to rev up the postgres server once more! #NewProjects #Bibliometrics #AcademicSky
Anyone interested in studying BlueSky data in bulk?
I've just released an app that consumes the firehose and stores it in PostgreSQL for easy use. Hope it's useful!

AI tools overhype research findings far more often than humans, with a study suggesting the newest bots are the worst offenders – particularly when they are specifically instructed not to exaggerate
#AcademicSky
The raison d'être of academic publishing is to publish output that meets a basic requirement of quality: that people should be able to trust that it isn't fundamentally wrong.
This feature shows a shocking disregard for that with a lazy caveat about it being AI content & 'the quality may vary'.
Several #KB partners have collaborated on an analysis of #openalex data quality aspects (here in particular the completeness of references as a fundamental backbone for bibliometric databases), more contributions to follow! link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Today, I am simply over the moon - as I can announce with joy that my first journal paper has just been published!! 🍾
What an amazing feeling, after such a journey!

Had not given this too much thought before, but yes, retracted studies can have a sizeable effect on meta-analyses conclusions

I would save time by leaving this comment in my peer review template instead of adding it in every time

Nothing to see here, just Nature advocating LLM peer review.
“Feed your dictated notes into an offline large language model (LLM) to clarify and organize your feedback. A simple prompt such as “Write a critical reviewer letter based on the following notes. Maintain a professional tone throughout”
"This paper presents a Python-based software solution that addresses these challenges by merging datasets from Scopus and Web of Science, performing DOI-based deduplication, and enhancing metadata using APIs such as Unpaywall and Semantic Scholar."

DS9 was so funny and great with this, Weyoun was a one off character who died at the end of his episode and everyone was like damn Weyoun was so cool we love Jeffrey Combs and then everyone realized it was Star Trek and you could do whatever you want so we got nine Weyouns running around
Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
I also dabble occasionally with other scrapers: for example 4TCT - a tool for collecting text datasets from 4Chan github.com/jhculb/4TCT
Recently I've presented the ORC at the Global Tech Mining conference in Berlin, and the Nordic Workshop for Bibliometrics and Research Policy in Reykjavik.
Hello Bluesky, I guess I should introduce myself.
I'm Jack, I enjoy bibliometrics and Open Science research.
When I have time I'm also pursuing my PhD.
I created the Open Research Converter (the ORC) orc-demo.gesis.org, and looked at the reference coverage of OpenAlex arxiv.org/abs/2401.16359.
