Also, some answers are “better” but require more thinking. When I asked for a fraction close to 45%, one group made 21/48 because it’s a bit less than 1/2, while another reasoned that 45/82 worked as 82 is close to 100. Which is actually closer aside, we appreciated different strategies!

I think it’d work for sure! I framed it as a game for buy-in but it’s really just an open-middle thinking task. Some questions have exact answers, but most require estimating and there might be several answers that are “close enough”. We didn’t actually keep score!

So much discussion, estimating, converting, and evaluating multiple potential answers. They loved the activity and I loved their thinking! #ITeachMath

Passed back some art on the Cartesian plane my students made a couple of weeks ago. I was shocked how much some of them enjoyed the task and provided much more detail than I asked for/anticipated. #iteachmath

In #mathstoday Gr 7s played games creating equivalent fractions, percents, and decimals to consolidate their strategies for converting. Scoring points by creating lines in either (or both) of the two grids added an element of strategy. #iteachmath
