Probably going to close early today unless foot traffic spikes at 7. We did reduce the bake volume today so my leftover stock won't be as bad as last week. And we have marginally beat last Tuesday's embarrassing sales. But it's another rough Tuesday, following unusually poor weekend numbers.

Most dried herbs take up way more space than ground spices, too. I can get through 200-250 grams of onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper. They don't take as much space as a 100g pack of thyme leaves though!

The first one looks like 吹 but the second one doesn't quite match 抜 to me. Looks more like 束 but not quite. But as you said, illegible.

Also John Hughes movies probably made the 80s divide seem more serious than it actually was. I think there was just a lot of insecurity no matter which subculture/clique you were in and toxicity was the coping mechanism.

Yesterday was rough. Today my body and mind were not in the game. Started out well ahead of last Friday, then collapsed as the aftermNoon rains hit.

Rain cleared up, a half price sale for yesterday's bread cleaned us out of leftovers. Near disaster until a regular bought 11,000 yen of stuff.

Just saw a 20 something Japanese woman take leave of her boyfriend/companion and hop over the train gates to catch her ride home. The gates started beeping, boyfriend scolded her and she shouted "bye, Baikin"

Oh yes, I'm in no way lamenting having cafe customers. That's meant to be our core money maker until I can get cheese production going. I just overshot demand for bread by a lot. Which means deep discounts tomorrow I expect.

I would like more of that. But it was mostly regulars. Or people referred by regulars. Two new customers came in excited about carrot cake just after the neighboring leather shopkeeper and two of his customers or partners came in.

Very Tuesday sales numbers (and yes, disappointing) but with an odd twist: way more cafe customers than bread customers. In fact, disturbingly little bread sold at all today.

Also had one customer who's son is going to Victoria, BC next week and was pleasantly surprised to find we have Nanaimo bars. And another who's son was visiting from Seattle and was curious about the whole Seattle style potato bread thing (so I named some bakeries like Macrina, Essential)

She ended up buying the gruyere and the guy bought cream cheese.

A woman & a man came in, possibly a couple though they paid separately. The man in search of cheese and the woman a cheese skeptic. I led with our scallion dill cream cheese on the crusty potato bread, which she loved. Then she tried gruyere, which she loved. And asiago, which she liked. A convert!
