Christ Analogue - In Radiant Decay (1997)

I can't believe this album is almost 30 years old. Wade Alin is a musical genius, having produced albums and remixes for a ton of artists. Words cannot describe how incredible IRD is from beginning to end, and it still holds up to this very day.

When I worked at Atlantic Records in 2001, I managed to score tickets to see The Doves at Irving Plaza as they were touring with one of our artists (Webb Brothers). It was a tight show full of great pre-9/11 NYC energy, which I truly miss.

If there was one song that I wish I had written, it'd be this. While I'm not the biggest Smashing Pumpkins fan, this song is something else. You can feel the wide range of Billy Corgan's emotions in the song, as witnessed in the video below.

Alec Empire - The Ride (2001)

Alec Empire (Atari Teenage Riot) has had many great solo albums (The Destroyer is a MUST-HAVE!). The lyrics and beats are there, as are Empire's core vocal sound, so you know you're going to be banging your head HARD listening to this.

One of my favorite underrated bands. They deserved tons of success, but disappeared after 3 albums. Joe (lead singer and Sting's son) went solo, doing tribute concerts, but, before he did so, gifted us with these incredible songs.

While they just released a new album, I suggest going back in time to 2002 and listening to their 604 album. The vocals and beats compliment each other very well.

Exile On Mainline

Chemlab - Exile on the Mainline (1996)

Jared Louche makes another appearance on my list. I've seen Chemlab a number of times (with Sister Machine Gun and others). Always a blast. For fans of the film Heat, you'll recognize the shootout at the beginning of the song.

I know, I know. I love to bake/cook, and have done so for ex-girlfriends, but a supermarket P.F.Changs microwave meal is just as good.

Holy shit, this album is incredible! I remember blasting this record when I worked at Tower Records (1998-2000), and eventually got to work with them when I joined Atlantic Records in 2001. Then, they changed their name to Virgos and disappeared.

Filter - Welcome to the Fold (1999)

The hardest song I've tried at karaoke (but with good results). Richard Patrick's heavy, harsh vocals help drive each song, but it's the high notes you need to watch out for (which you'll hear mid-song as well as on other tracks). Great album, too!
