Drive feels like it belongs in Paul Schraderโs genre of films in the best way!

Is this something youโll be posting or publishing?? Iโd love to read it!!
01.08.2025 20:20 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I wish a very happy โfuck youโ to everyone who thought throwing trans people under the bus was going to stop these lunatics
Their goal has *always* been the eradication of the entire LGBTQ+ community, and theyโre not gonna stop at Obergefell either
This is why we fight for *everyone*
I have no problem with you having an opinion. In fact, you're entitled to it!
But I'm done with the "straw man" bullshit. If you're gonna continue to blatantly misrepresent me, use assumptions as facts, then accuse me of being cynical + condemning other filmmakers, see yourself out of my comments โ๏ธ
My initials are AMC. My first kiss was at the movies at 13 (we bumped heads). My essay on the films that changed my life got me into college, where I met my partner. We shot our first film together in 2022. Movies are EVERYTHING to me.
However, I have ZERO tolerance for toxic film bros.

โThey havenโt finished writing [the script]โ is pretty unambiguous. Saying itโs a risk to shoot a film (especially a $500 million one) with an unfinished script isnโt a critique of Marvelโ itโs an observation
If you wanna keep misrepresenting my position/moving the goalposts, go argue with yourself
Iโm going off what was said in the original interview with an actor on the set. โThey havenโt finished writing [the script].โ
If you want pretend to know whatโs happening behind the scenes and make assumptions about how many passes of the script theyโve completed (with zero evidence), be my guest!
You're blatantly misrepresenting my argument
I never said you have to die by the written word. I never criticized anyoneโs approach to filmmaking. I never said you can't improv on set or pivot if something isn't working. Thatโs the job!
I said I would never roll cameras WITHOUT A COMPLETED SCRIPT!
Will it work? I hope so!
But you canโt deny itโs risky to roll cameras with an unfinished script within the current studio system (especially one with such high stakes)
Personally, I feel I owe it to my cast, crew, audience, & investors to go in with the groundwork firmly in place
But you do you!
The film is estimated to cost +$500 million. The Russoโs 3 most recent films as writer/directors have flopped critically (Electric State, Gray Man, & Cherry). A $31 billion franchise, ~20 years of continuity, 47 movies/shows, +25 A-List actors, a half-billion dollar budgetโฆ
And an incomplete script
You just listed some of the most revered names in the history of film. They either earned that right though the consistent quality of their work or learned how to work without a finished script on a small scale (e.g. Eraserhead)]
To put myself among those names would be nothing short of egotistical
Your actors wanna improv on the day? DO IT! Inspiration strikes like a bolt of lighting while on set? TRY IT!
But having a script to fall back on allows you to get coverage in case it doesnโt work. Marvel might get away with it bc of the sheer size of their prod. budgets + reshoots. But most wonโt.
Take Marvel out of it.
If someone decides to take time out of their busy life to drive to the theater + spend their hard-earned cash to watch a film that I wrote/directed, Iโm gonna make damn sure Iโve given it my all.
For *me* that means having a near bulletproof script long before cameras roll.
Itโs possible
Yet Marvel has had to pivot a TON due to the tragic loss of one of their biggest stars, assault allegations vs. multiple actors, the Disney+ content mandate, & several box office flops in Phase 5
With Doomsday/Secret Wars projected to cost more than Infinity War/Endgame, why risk it?
Finnegan, the worldโs cutest cat (donโt fight me), curled up in a perfect little ball on a beanbag chair.
He got a little spooked ๐ canโt be mad at him though, heโs too darn cute
27.07.2025 22:52 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Again, Iโm not saying a director needs to follow a script word for word. But unless youโre funding a film *entirely* yourself, youโre gambling with other peopleโs time, money, and livelihoods.
At the very least, having a finished script, even an imperfect one, gives you a safety net to fall back on
Andrew (still disheveled but less sleep deprived) with a large hole in his shirt made by a very scared kitten.
The culprit: Top view of a kitten with a striped tail.
Learned an important lesson today:
Donโt hold your kitten when your partner turns on the vacuum!
Iโm not saying thereโs no room to play/experiment on setโ thatโs the magic of filmmaking! Happy accidents, improvisation, and rewrites can make a film
But to walk onto a film set as a director with the weight $31 BILLION franchise resting on your shoulders with an *incomplete* script feels reckless
I hear you
For me (writer/director) the script isnโt a blueprint, but a Bible. Every person involved in a production reads the sacred text and uses it to guide them on how to best do their jobs. A line of dialogue on the last page might completely change an actorโs understanding of their character!
Excuse me?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEYโRE SHOOTING THE FILM AND HAVENโT FINISHED WRITING THE SCRIPT?!
I understand that this might be common in the industry but I couldnโt imagine trying to direct a movie without a finished scriptโ especially a film that costs HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS

He had a few really rough nights to start (especially after getting fixed). Heโs my first cat (and a rescue) so I felt a little overmatched, but weโve finally found a really good rhythm ๐ค
Just focusing now on healing and catching up on sleep whenever I can!!

Thank you!! ๐ค
We think he was dumped which is absolutely devastating, so weโre thrilled he trusts us and that he has acclimated to his new home so quickly!!
