Israel is accused of the gravest war crimes in Gaza Distinguished lawyers, senior humanitarians and diplomats tell Jeremy Bowen why they are increasingly concerned about the catastrophe inside Gaza.

Journalism like the BBC used to do ... please, please can we go back to this standard? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Never again must mean never again for anyone.
Humanity, not hierarchy.
Peace, not power.
And truthβ€”even when it’s uncomfortable.

Yes. However it is an excellent piece by Bowen, and so important that the BBC says it clearly. His piece doesn't sit on the fence, hide behind 'balance' but gives the facts, with a very clear conclusion. We cannot sit back and ignore, and the BBC must provide clarity.

Have we passed peak Trump? | Kenneth Roth Since Trump returned to the White House, the checks and balances of US democracy have proved remarkably resilient

Too optimistic? But I like the advice:
Trump’s undermining of democracy is a deliberate scheme to build an autocracy...
Early opposition is important...
A collective defense works best...
Appeasement is seen by bullies as weakness, an invitation to demand more.

Obvs! Why can't a Labour Government deliver on these glaringly obvious fundamentals for a fair and healthy UK?

International law
Sir, Lord Hermer’s warning is not an insult but a timely reminder from legal history (news, May 30). His reference to Carl Schmitt was not a personal comparison, but a caution against a dangerous and corrosive doctrine: that state power may override law when convenient. That principle helped dismantle constitutional safeguards in interwar Germany and must be scrutinised wherever it resurfaces. The European Convention on Human Rights was an integral part of Churchill’s postwar vision. To treat it now as a mere obstacle to immigration policy is to forget why it was created: to ensure that governments, including our own, remain ultimately subject to a substantive vision of the law. The real divide is not between Remainers and Leavers, or Strasbourg and Westminster, but between those who believe in government under law and those who do not.

In working class areas like Stonehouse, Green support is growing strongly

With people disillusioned with Labour it's going to be Green or Reform that they choose

And only one of those is a democratic party

I am standing for the Green Party in the #Stonehouse Division of #Gloucestershire county council - Exciting, feel very winnable. Promoted by Rob Brookes on behalf of Tom Jarman and Stroud District Green Party, both c/o 17 Great George St, Bristol BS1 5QT.

How can we stand by and not feel personal guilt? How can we not demand our Government acts, that the world acts to stop and care.
A deeply, tragically moving story. How can we?

Nick Housden - the ex Tory incumbent in Stonehouse, has declared he is standing as an independent. So will we see tories, reform and Nick all standing? Think I'd choose change over all that nonsense

Now standing as an independent - odd when other ex Tories are defecting to Reform. Odd

Labour needs an urgent history lesson. Its plans couldn’t fund a war and won’t boost growth | Larry Elliott We are seeing a pale version of military Keynesianism, and for what? That money would be better spent fighting the climate crisis, says Guardian columnist Larry Elliott

β€œThe climate crisis poses a bigger existential threat to this country than Putin does or ever will, so if money can be found for the military there’s no reason why it couldn’t also be found to accelerate self-sufficiency in clean energy. That might really do something for national security”. Copenhagen’s disastrous ski slope-cum-incinerator Someone thought it was a good idea to build a ski slope on top of a giant, stinky pyre of trash. It wasn’tβ€”not least for the climate

Incinerators are such a nonsense. Can we stop now please?

With you completely Dale. Can you not align to Green Party - it does seem to fit you better than current Labour? Wealth tax, investment in renewables, no more runways etc are central to their policies.

Still this nonsense goes on. Picture below from early days XR forming a 'waste inspectors blockade' at the Glos incinerator. Good luck guys, we need no more of these monstrosities:

Glos incinerator: The most expensive incinerator in the Country - and still we are being told porky's by the leaders who breached procurement law to force this on the public.
