Yep. One of our stated goals in founding this co-op was to never build a system that could allow anyone to "we're a family" their way out of labor rights and an equitable workplace. A union holds founders and newcomers alike accountable to that goal.

We love the folks at Start.coop and can't recommend their team highly enough - if you have a chance to work with them, take it!

Even though we're a worker-owned co-op, and right now our team consists entirely of our 3 founders, we're still unionizing in 2025. Unionizing helps make sure our founding team won't have an unequal seat at the table when we grow.

This is such a great post. One of the reasons we decided to unionize, even though we're 100% worker-owned, is we never want workers to be at the mercy of our good intentions. Teams change, and without labor protections built-in, something as ephemeral as "good company culture" can go by the wayside.
