Rep. Eric Swalwell: The aim of Trump's escalating threats on elected officials is to 'silence' them
YouTube video by MS NOW Rep. Eric Swalwell: The aim of Trump's escalating threats on elected officials is to 'silence' them

Eric Swalwell said "California is the greatest country in the world and is under attack."

Misspeak or not, a Governor who sees California not merely as one of 50 states, but as the Republic of California deserving maximal autonomy would win me over.

Opinion: Time to secede? β€’ The Mendocino Voice | Mendocino County, CA California voters are hugely disadvantaged in the Senate and the rule of law is being trampled daily.

πŸ—³οΈ OPINION: With political tensions rising nationwide, one Mendocino County writer argues it may be time for California to consider secession β€” not just regional alliances, but a true break from federal authority.

California is already entering into pacts with countries, sending state representation where only countries would attend. It's a soft secession.

I'm starting the take the California secession movement more seriously. As a lifelong Californian, I don't know why I would want to support a Federal government that doesn't know how to govern, or attempts to do so from the point of a view of a shitty mob crew.

Understandably, many people scoffed at the first (or second, or hundredth) mention of California secession. And it's never properly been studied, because why would we?

But the burner only gets so hot before you jerk your hand away. Suddenly New West America doesn't seem so farfetched or silly.

Without calling for blue state secession, I will say this:

I think we either find a way to get rid of the Electoral College and the other baked in aspects of our constitutional system that give rabid white Christians disproportionate power, or the country will inevitably split at some point

As someone who's been involved in the movement for a long time, no one thinks this guy (or Marcus Evans) is the leader.

Secession is unlikely to pass if it gets on the ballot (44% yes, 54% no), but there is plenty of support for CA independence more broadly. See ic.institute/poll
