This is a stunning example of an Einstein ring.

The bright, diffuse galaxy in the centre is closer to usโ€”and it's so massive, it's bending spacetime itself, turning light from a far more distant galaxy behind it into a ring.

It's bending the very fabric of the Universe.

This is the closest image of Saturn ever captured by the Cassini spacecraft. It shows the planet in a majestic and serene light, with its rings in the foreground. The planet's golden hues are highlighted by the sunlight filtering through its upper atmosphere. A notable feature is the intriguing hexagonal storm at the north pole, a unique weather phenomenon in our solar system. The image provides an unparalleled, close-up perspective, inviting viewers to appreciate the intricate details of Saturn's cloud bands and the sheer vastness of its ring system. It is a stunning portrayal of the beauty and complexity of this gas giant, captured from a vantage point closer than any human-made probe has ventured before.

The large, hazy oval of elliptical galaxy NGC 6505 illuminates the center of this image from the European Space Agency's Euclid mission. At the heart of the galaxy is a small bright spot surrounded by a thin white circle, which is a magnified view of a much more distant galaxy. The view is also filled with countless colorful stars and galaxies of various sizes and shapes amidst the blackness of space. Thin spikes of light extend from the brightest stars due to the observatoryโ€™s optics. The image is watermarked โ€œCredit: ESA/Euclid/Euclid Consortium/NASA, image processing by J.-C. Cuillandre, T. This wintry scene was captured from southern Poland on the northern hemisphere's long solstice night. Otherwise unseen nebulae hang in the sky, revealed by the camera modified to record red hydrogen-alpha light. The nebulae lie near the edge of the Orion molecular cloud and join the Hunter's familiar belt stars and bright giants Betelgeuse and Rigel. Eye of Taurus the Bull, yellowish Aldebaran anchors the V-shaped Hyades star cluster near top center. Still, near opposition in planet Earth's sky, the Solar System's ruling gas giant Jupiter is the brightest celestial beacon above this horizon's snowy peaks.

Clever composite photo lets you see a side of the universe normally hidden to human vision. A camera tuned to hydrogen-alpha light reveals glorious interstellar clouds swirling around the familiar stars of the constellation Orion.

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has spotted the spiral galaxy ESO 499-G37, seen here against a backdrop of distant galaxies, scattered with nearby stars.

The galaxy is viewed from an angle, allowing Hubble to reveal its spiral nature clearly. The faint, loose spiral arms can be distinguished as bluish features swirling around the galaxyโ€™s nucleus. This blue tinge emanates from the hot, young stars located in the spiral arms.

Two-panel image of the same quasar taken by different Hubble instruments. The top panel is an image of quasar 3C 273. It looks like a bright white car headlight. There is a linear orange-white smoke-like feature stretching to the 4 oโ€™clock position, an extragalactic jet launched from the quasar in the center of a black hole of an unseen galaxy. The panel below is roughly the same image but in blue shades. A black circle blocks the glare of the quasar in this image, disrupting the headlight effect. Blue-colored filamentary material can be seen near the black hole. The extragalactic jet is still visible.

Astronomers have used Hubble to peer closer than ever into an energetic monster black hole powering a quasar. The new image details a lot of weird things: filaments, lobes, and a mysterious L-shaped structure: bit.ly/4fIkNTC ๐Ÿ”ญ ๐Ÿงช
