I have the evidence. My complaints, unsurprisingly, were ignored. I had been asked to apply and definitely should have been shortlisted in any merit-based process. One of my referees was Will Steffen, to whom I co-dedicated my third relevant edited book www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/book/10....

In 2019 80% of 5 candidates shortlisted as inaugural prof of climate change & health at PIK and Charite Berlin were female; to correct a perceived bias. This was undoubtedly illegal under EU law. Until so-called planetary & climate health leaders can behave ethically there will be little progress.

Why we’re barely keeping track of this growing climate problem Fossil fuel sites can emit a powerful greenhouse gas long after they shut down.

Small methane wells leak massive amountsβ€”but are barely tracked. Like microplastics, pesticides, and biodiversity loss, they’re invisible by design. Profit demands willful ignorance.

Right before I saw the message from Trump I got a very different one from a friend in Tehran, so deeply surrounded by bombing that he was asking me to help communicate his last wishes. This is what my own taxes fund, so much pain upon my loved ones. We are complicit in so, so, so much violence.

4. Why Net Zero Policies Do More Harm than Good We publish high-quality, open access academic research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Read all our books for free online.

Australia should just get on with the energy transition (at least attempting to). I hope the COP selection committee sees through this, but they probably won't. Net zero is a mix of scam, delusion, desperation & wishful thinking. www.openbookpublishers.com/books/10.116...

"360 million tonnes [mt] of emissions could be negated by a mix of green exports". Word "negated" is objectionable. "Saving" 204 mt of COβ‚‚ is not same as sequestering 204mt (another pipedream btw); hole we are in wouldn't get shallower; the GHG emissions aren't cancelled.

Also, this is not net zero. Energy from renewables will (hopefully) replace energy from fossil fuels. But it will NOT lower GHG levels, it will only slow GHG growth. M/time, just as with old fashioned net zero, it creates moral hazard, this false equivalence could paradoxically delay the transition.

Their argument: Australia should do zero to curtail its bad energy exports (like heroin) instead increase its export of good energy (like heroin therapists). No. We should definitely increase the export of good energy- but we should not think this gives us license to profit from planet poisoning.

The lead author is from one of my ANU affiliations - whose just retired director recently wrote to tell me there is no climate change "emergency" because it's "expected". I applied as his replacement, naturally was not short listed. Sophistry and denial - both examples. Very sad.

A new low in Australian excuses for fossil fuel expansion…apparently our coal and gas exports can be β€˜netted out’ if we export enough green energy…can someone please call the atmosphere and tell it that burning fossil fuels wont harm it as long as we generate some renewables…FFS

Inside the fight to get Monash University to divorce fossil fuels for good As Monash's partnership with Woodside comes up for renewal, the university is facing pressure from students and staff to ditch the company for good.

In 2016 Monash University said it would divest from fossil fuels. The same year it inked a deal with Woodside, Australia's biggest domestic oil and gas supplier, starting a decade-long partnership.

I looked at how the institution was living up to its promises. The short answer: it's not.

Australian Outback Lashed by Year’s Worth of Rain in Week, Triggering Worst Floods in Half a Century Australia’s remote outback in western Queensland has been swamped by flooding after being lashed with a year’s worth of rainfall in a week, sweeping away tens of thousands of livestock.

A year’s worth of rain falls in less than a week in an Australian region the size of Texas, triggering worst floods in 50 years.

Code Yikes!

On March 20th, 2025, the global mean surface temperature once again set a new daily record at 14.29Β°C, beating the previous daily record of 14.24Β°C set just last year.

The record global temperature should be short-lived as a global cool down is expected any day now.

In an interview on @france24.com (seemingly just removed), Flo pretended that the Chinese authorities only discovered late in January that there were human-to-human transmissions in Wuhan.

I could expect this from a hallucinating chatbot, not from a supposed 'fact-checker'.

Long ago I stopped responding to climate change deniers, with very rare exceptions. I no longer engage with natural zoonosis promoters; though I admire those with the stamina to do so. It should be clear, to anyone well trained in science, that a lab pathway for the COVID-19 pandemic is plausible.
